The hotel is situated in a prefect position in the historic centre so you can reach most of the attractions on foot. Even from the airport its easy to reach by bus and a few metres on foot. The room is nicely decorated and has all aminites and also very clean. There is complementary tea and coffee in the room and... Brown's Downtown is one of three hotels within a two block radius (Brown's Central, Browns Boutique are close by), owned by Portuguese despite the name. We liked the hotel, but had a few distracting issues. BD is a three star hotel. The owners did a great job in rehabbing an old building. The common area suggest good taste, the elevator... More

Two days before our arrival in Lisbon, we got a call from Brown's Downtown Hotel telling us that they would have to cancel our reservation because of an error in their reservation system. We had had this room reserved for eight months and then been told two days prior to arrival, it was no longer available. If it was double... More

The receptionists were welcoming, helpful and knowledgable. The hotel is well situated for sightseeing and is close to good public transport. There are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance. Very comfortable bed. However we felt it was overpriced. The room was clean but needed some decorative touching up. The room was very small, 2 people have to co-ordinate movements... More

Pretty nifty, clean place with decent breakfast across the street. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities in room was more than what I expected, including an iMac and speakers. The location is ideal, very close to the metro and city centre. However, it is right next to the road and it can be noisy at night, and the speakers... More

Small rooms. No air conditioning. Good location. Breakfast in another building along the same street. Good service. Needs maintenance. Cleanness is fair. Recommended if you're not too demanding. It has 3 stars, but deserves only 2!

Enjoyed our stay - the location is a winner, everything within walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room (the superb) was big and very equipped! The breakfast is served at another location, which is 30 seconds from there, and is very good!!!

We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel and found it to be quite adequate. The receptionist was courteous and helpful. We arrived very late and checked out early in the morning, so both processes combined took less than 5 minutes. The hotel itself is situated centrally, being a brisk walk from the Baixa-Chiado station entrance. It's within walking distance to... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
