We enjoyed our stay at the Brown's Downtown very much. The staff is really nice and helpfull. The room is very modern with an iMac a TV and some more technical gadgets. It even has a small kitchen. The room was very clean and we had a great stay. The location couldn't be better. Very central and everything is in...

I booked this place through Expedia and wasn't quite sure what to expect but to be honest it was quite nice for a quick weekend getaway with my best friend. The room was small but very comfortable, it came fully equipped with an iMac and iPad which was great because we could do some work if we needed to. The...

We had a great stay at the Brown's Downtown Hotel. The location is close to transportation, making it easy to get anywhere in the city. We took the AeroBus in from the airport and the Praca do Comerico stop is only a few blocks from the hotel. Like many European hotels, the rooms are compact and efficient. We had a...

This hotel is in a very convenient location, close to the seaside as well as to other local amenities. Comfortable and stylish in its interiors, it suits both singles and families and we would recommend it to whoever is looking to spend a nice weekend in Lisbon.

a recent stay at this hotel was almost perfect! The rooms were stylish, and well equipped with Apple Mac, iPad, a kitchenette and digital TV. The location was amazing, really I couldn't have chosen anywhere better. The only downsides were the 'compact' bathroom, and the lack of onsite facilities although the breakfast at the sister hotel a few yards away...

Browns Downtown is a conversion of an historic building into a hip boutique hotel. The hotel is immaculately maintained and the staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful. For the price we paid on Booking.com (non-refundable booking) it was a real bargain! Our room was comfortable and had a TV, free wifi and use of an i-pad provided by the hotel....

There's absolutely nothing bad that I could say about Browns downtown. We stayed in the superior double and the minute we arrived in the hotel we received amazing service. They were really friendly and helpful and let me switch to a different room upon request with no fus at all. Reviews here say small bathroom but we found it fine,...

Really special hotel. Easy to miss outside so pay attention to the door labels. The location is otherwise perfect. Just a step away from the busy center of Lisbon. You are in the middle of everything but it feels still quiet. Open the door and you'll see a very special lobby area. Doesn't really feel like a hotel at all....

It's hard to beat this location: two blocks from the Metro, three blocks from the Trams, four block from the waterfront, and four blocks the other direction to the Rossio entertainment district. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful. The lobby lounge areas were always a great place to strike up a conversation with other travelers over free coffee. The...

We moved here as we came to the end of our stay in Browns central, and decided to stay another day, but they were full, so they found us an 'equivalent ' room in their sister hotel Browns downtown...... The staff are fantastic, friendly, professional, helpful, and efficient, but the hotel, leaves a lot to be desired. No bar, no breakfast, no...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
