Balthazar My wife and I (Canadian and in our mid 30s) recently took a road trip through Portugal staying in Lisbon, Evora, Lagos, and the Alentejo Coast near Vila Nova De Milfontes. All the places we stayed at were in the same price range and so we believe we’re able to make comparisons between our experiences at each place. See... More

A wonderful experience. The location is very central yet it is quiet and peaceful with wonderful pool area. The best part was the service and care taken by staff. The breakfast is a real treat. I would highly recommend. Bring your walking shoes when visiting Lisbon - it is billy goat country.

My husband, teenaged son, and I stayed here for 5 nights - with a one night break in Porto in between. The staff couldn't have been more gracious or helpful to us. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, and the property is very well-located. Breakfast is very generous and delicious. Thank you Maria, Antonia and Sabin (sp.?) for wonderful stay.... More

Stay here! You'll never want to stay in a traditional hotel again. Have your own piece of a Portuguese villa. We booked a room with a terrace view and ended up with a 3 storey townhouse - topped by the most amazing roof terrace. Service, cleanliness and position = perfect.

The best way to describe the experience of Casa Balthazar is one where you are staying at some friends' house with them gone but having left the supremely-trained well-trained staff behind... As while you are getting only some basic services (breakfast) everyone will go to great lengths in trying to accommodate any wish you may have. During our two-day stay... More

We recently stayed for 4 nights and it was lovely. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and felt special. The rooms are spacious, ours was a garden room with sitting room and kitchenette, the decor is impeccable. Breakfast is amazing and served to your room or on the patio/near the pool as you desire. It is located... More

Beautiful hotel, great location. Wonderful host. Lovely breakfast served to your room. a pleasure to stay in and would definitely recommend. Reckon we may have opted for the best room so paid a little more- with suite, balcony, large bedroom and bathroom but was worth it.

Stayed at Casa Balthazar for a week. Would go back in a heartbeat. Perfect central location in pretty house on little street, wonderfully helpful and friendly proprietors. We loved our suite with outdoor terrace, hot tub and views to die for. Breakfast delivered to our door with delicious pastries from their historic bakery (suggest different hams and cheeses then the... More

Beautifully appointed room, laid back atmosphere, pool and garden to relax by in the evening with something from the honor bar. Loved this hotel and will be back. Just one thing, location is in very hilly area so not suitable for those that aren't able to walk distance or climb. If you are, this is perfect. Breakfast was divine.

Great B&B! Very welcoming and friendly. It was nice having the small pool available for a refreshing dip on the hot afternoons. The main house was beuatiful and comfortable. Our room was very spacious and new or newly remodeled with a magnificent view of the city. Highly recommend this place. We'll be back!

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
