Most reviews on here will tell you that they love the uniqueness of the hotel -- its history, architecture, interiors, etc. That's all true and we enjoyed those qualities during our stay. What stood us for us is Solar do Castelo's customer care. Being a European resident myself in a previous life, I know.not to expect too much such as hotel establishments providing full guest services. From changes to our original booking and receiving delivered parcels, to including breakfasts and assisting us with our luggage -- each member of the hotel team we interfaced with, including the hotel manager, went the extra mile to meet our needs prior to, during, and at the end of our stay. Truly, this hotel has far exceeded our expectations! I would not hesitate to recommend Solar do Castelo to friends and family traveling to Lisbon.…
Solar do Castelo is an absolutely beautiful hotel with such a wonderful ambiance!! Excellent breakfast options including Mimosas and fresh squeezed orange juice. The courtyard is gorgeous and occasionally peacocks and hens hop in and stroll around. The Castelo de Sao Jorge is adjacent, so the huge birds drop in from there for a drink at the little pool and a snack at the potted plants. Our room was great, decorated for the period with the armoire painted to match the drapes. Such an enjoyable experience!!
Stunning hotel located right beside the castle where the peacocks roaming through the gardens. From the pick up at the airport to check in and check out all the staff were so friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough to help us. The room was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. The only disappointment was that we only booked one night!! We’ll be back for more!!
In a stunning location, this is a most delightful hotel with a relaxed atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff. Although perched up on the highest hill in Lisbon it is easily accessible by taxi and bus and the hotel will even fetch you on their golf cart. The breakfast was outstanding with real fresh ly squezed orange juice and Nespresso coffee on tap. Coffe and cakes available for all through the day and an honour bar. Oh yes - the rooms are really comfortable too - you can ask for the matress to be made more firm or softer if needed. And must not forget the peacocks strutting everywhere - so colourful and fascinating.
Great staff, who is very friendly and helpful. Very nicely renovated rooms in a historic building right next to the castle. Lots of nice little extras that the hotel provides for the guests. The location is very quiet, on top of the city. It is a bit of a climb to get there, but absolutely worth it. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.
We did very little homework before planning our trip to Lisbon, so we felt very lucky that we hit the jackpot on this hotel! We chose it for the very dumb reason that we saw they had peacocks roaming the area, and the peacocks did not disappoint one bit (there are a least a dozen of them roaming around). The hotel is very, very old, so it comes with some quirks. But the rooms are in excellent condition, and the staff was incredibly helpful, including arranging free rides for us to/from the airport & train station. My only warning if you're thinking to book here is that it is located near the top of the biggest hill in town, so you will either be walking or driving up & down the tiniest roads you've ever seen any time you want to go anywhere. We were fine with it, but it should be a serious consideration if you're older or have any mobility issues. Can't beat the view, though!…
Wonderful hotel. Quiet and peaceful with a lovely atmosphere and good service. Enjoyed the breakfasts and the nice touches such as freedom to have tea and coffee (and cakes) whenever we wished and a port decanter in the room. Would love to come again.
Ideally located within the castle walls allows you to wonder around the cobbled streets at your leisure. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help. Whilst all our meals were at local restaurants, we did have a great breakfast spread including fresh orange juice, albeit be aware that the hot food does not keep very warm so go early.
A very pleasant stay with excellent accommodation and service. Pick up and drop off at the airport was an added bonus. Staff were extremely helpful in restaurant recommendations and taxi services. The breakfast was very enjoyable as well.
What an oasis of tranquility Solar do Castelo is. A quiet and attractive setting, a very welcoming hotel and very good standard of accommodation. Breakfast excellent, delightful in the courtyard before a long day sightseeing. Thoroughly recommend to other travellers.
