We spent 3 nights at the hotel in December '15 and had a room which looked into the castle gardens - nice to open the curtains in the morning and see several peacocks lined up on the wall! It's expensive of course but worth it for a special occasion. Amazing rooms, Molten Brown toiletries, and the best breakfast in Lisbon...

We stayed here in December 2015. The hotel is very clean and friendly. The breakfasts are well worth having. The Nespresso Machine and complimentary pastries in the lounge area were a life saver. The room was a little bit dark but very clean and spacious. It was a nice treat that there was a decanter of port in the room...

Lovely hotel set within the castle grounds, an old house given an update but remaining cosy with friendly helpful staff. A complimentary carafe of port in your room and tea and coffee provided all day in the sitting area with cakes. You feel welcome. Breakfast has practically all you could wish for. Staff will help with plans for sightseeing and...

Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the peaceful environment. The room is comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly. Great breakfast! It is just beside the castle and convenient to visit the cathedral.

We have been to this hotel three times and have always enjoyed it. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Lovely courtyard. Great breakfast. Fantastic location but you have to put in a little extra effort. The hotel is located in the walls of the Castelo St. George in the Alfama district. The "roads" are tiny, sidewalks really, and most cabs drop...

This was a great place for us because we enjoy waking, but there are lots of ways to get up to castle without your own two legs. We loved being there in the morning and evening after the tours left. Ask the hotel for an authentic Fado place. Take the walking tours from the tourist information.

Staff was great, friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. Entry way, lobby, common room/breakfast room and court yard were clean and very well appointed. Buffet was excellent and constantly attended and refreshed. The hotels "little museum" was very informative and impressive. Our room was just as expected, yet more. The bedding, towels and little extras were fabulous. We were impressed that a...

Me and my 13 yo son absolutely love this hotel: behind the huge "barn" door which we could open with our own key there was a beautiful modern designed with artifacts comfortable place. The staff is great!

The service and rooms were wonderful. We enjoyed our stay. I loved the peacocks and décor of the hotel. We will stay there again when we return to Lisbon! The location of the hotel situated in the castle on the hill makes it special.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.

“Loved my room overlooking the courtyard.”

“Our room overlooked the courtyard and the peacocks from the castle often flew in and at night a fire pit was lit which was great to sit beside. We were on a 'Romantic Lisbon' package with Expedia and that included in our room. The bed was very big and the bathroom toiletries were Molton Brown which I think says it all about the quality of the hotel.”
