The Solar Do Castelo is a small 'boutique' hotel on the site of the castle's kitchens. The staff were very friendly and you got the feeling they really would do anything to make your stay more comfortable - the hotel even offers to change your mattress to firmer/softer ones! And it has its own mini-museum. Small things make all the...

The rooms were comfortable, cozy and air-conditioned. The facilities were very nice and comfortable as well, including a very nice patio. There is no restaurant on premise though the location makes it easy to walk to many restaurants and cafes in the area. A breakfast is available (check to see if it is included in your rates) and looked quite...

Beautiful, small, quiet hotel. Great breakfast and lovely sunny courtyard to relax in. Long walk up hill to get home in evening but worth it. Highly recommend this hotel to those who are fit and want a bit of peace and quiet.

We had a great stay at this hotel in Lisbon by the castle at the top of the hill. Our room was very comfortable and great to come back to after a late night of Fado or a full day of sightseeing even in plus 30 temperatures. Taxis had a hard time finding it or couldn't get through the small...

We spent 6 nights at the Solar do Castelo, in a room overlooking the courtyard, and absolutely loved everything about it. The brilliant location backing on to the castle grounds (the hotel is built on the site of the former kitchens of the castle and has a small display of excavated objects), busy during the day but very quiet at...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
