This is a good value basic hotel - believe it was just 50 GBP per night on expedia. Pros: 1. Location is in middle of town, walking distance to all things fun and touristy, with airport shuttle and metro stop right outside 2. Clean, spacious rooms. Nothing fancy - but they got the fundamentals right and having a small kitchen...

Four great features: (1) The roof cafe/deck/pool provides some of the best views in Lisbon, including the picture postcard view of the castle. Good breakfast there for 5 Euros, and drinks in the late afternoon/evening. (2) Location is the best in Lisbon, with airport bus stop directly in front of the door (see photo), subway stop just steps away, tourist...

We have booked VIP Eden because we wanted to stay in the heart of Lisboa. With a cold smile we were told that the hotel is overbooked. We had to wait for a shuttle and went to another VIP Hotel. Duration 1 1/2 h. A confirmation of this VIP Hotel is nothing but a piece of paper but no guarantee...

Arrived at this hotel at 7.30pm in the evening only to discover they were overbooked despite having sent us two email confirmations several weeks earlier. The reception proclaimed it was not their fault but their computer system! Although our car was parked in a car park outside, we were shuffled off to an inconvenient and depressing hotel in another part...

This would be a four star hotel if it were properly maintained. There were just too many things not properly working in our apartment (curtain motor, refrigerator, remote control for TV) or missing (toilet paper holder, hook for clothing on bathroom door, some TV channels). I made a list with shortcomings and handed it to reception upon checkout. I had...

There is only one good thing to say about this hotel, and that is its location, which is really great. The hotel, however, was rather nasty - we got a really small room with "sprayed fresh air", i e the air condition did not work and there was this foul smell in the room. The bathroom floor had obviously not...

There are two great things to say about this hotel, one is the location, located on the Praca dos Restaudares which is just next to the Rossio, near Barrio Alto, and a Metro stop. Also, there's plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from and a tourist info center next door. The other great thing to say is the view from the...

The rooms are big and spacious, but not very clean, the towels are very thin and some have holes in them, and the bathroom has that awful sewer smell! Would never consider this hotel a 4 star hotel, more like a 2 star with ample space. Breakfast choices not very good. We left after 6 nights and moved to Hotel...

We chose the VIP Eden after reading the reviews on this website and overall were very happy with our choice. Admittedly the staff were not what I would describe as friendly but they did perform their tasks efficiently. The location of the hotel is great, just a few metres from the metro stop and Airport shuttle bus stop. The rooftop...

We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by the receptionist who didn't make us feel welcome. The room was spacious but we found stains on the bedspread and the telephone didn't work. The shower was more like water coming out from a hose pipe. As the telephone wasn't working and there wasn't a mini bar in the room, we...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
