The best thing about this place was leaving. The waiter was not only rude but he also tried to rip us off. We foolishly chose to eat here as we walked past without checking trip advisor, mistake. The waiter was rude, the food was average at best and then, as per another previous review the waiter added water we didn't...

First things first. When in Alfama I reccomend booking a table in one of them nice restaurants as they are all full and it's difficult to get a table. Not having done that we ended up in that place. What a shame. The dishes in the menu have nor been described at all. Literally - 'stuffed chicken' or 'grilled octopus...

We had dinner in this restaurant and it was so bad that I would never recommend it. The waiter left on the table 2 bottles of water and 2 tapas. We asked if they were free and he said yes, yes. When we saw the bill we had a great surprise, we had to pay for the water, tapas and...

If you like Fado then you couldnt wish for a better location, right above a restaurant which has live Fado on the terrace every night till midnight. Sitting with the window open and a glass of port listening to the music was awesome! During the day it was very quiet. The place is small but bright and clean. Agree that...

As mentioned another review, these few apartments are in a 'difficult' location as far as vehicles/taxis are concerned. We were only staying for a few days so we only had hand luggage. Our taxi dropped us off on one of the slightly larger roads and we walked up to the apartment. (If we went again, we'd definitely get to the...

This company rents several apartments in Largo Sao Rafael. They are in a hidden corner where taxis do not go. You have to carry the luggage to the apartment. Along the way are several steep stairs. The apartments are not recommended for the elderly or families with children.Lisbon Holidays is also not very cooperative or helpful in this point. Bad...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
