The “host” Andre was quite pleasant and helpful. However, the apartment is in a grubby part of Lisbon, in fact, very dirty. The apartment itself was relatively clean. No aircon for very hot days. A small fan was the cooling. Our apartment was up 2 flights of steep stairs and did not appear to have a fire escape or smoke detectors. Apparently they had been meaning to put them in but had not done so. Bed good, but bedroom small. Kitchen small - and had a cups of tea in wine glasses - one cup only. Lounge was a day bed and kept sliding. Very solid security. No maps for tourists as in our last apartment. The lane is very narrow and the large building opposite the apartments is being renovated - far too noisy and dusty. More renovation is going on further down the lane. Both buildings look as though the work will take some time. Not for the faint hearted.…
I arrived at this place late at night. Owner there to meet me. A great find. Will definitely return. Very clean, comfortable, very good WiFi access. Good breakfast. Fantastic setup. Loved it.!!!! very easy to get to from the metro.
This is a beautiful house in the centre of Lisbon, very easy to walk from here to historic part. Rafael is a great host. Prior to my arrival, I have my wallet stolen in Rossio square and have no money on the first day to pay for him. He still received me with great welcome and generosity. I managed to sorted out the situation quickly. Lisbon is very beautiful city but be extra cautious about thief in the tourist part or trams etc.
I´ve been there 3 nights and came home with hundreds of bed bugs bites!!!! There was a very bad smell in the room and when it was raining the kitchen floor was full with water. Allthough the lender was very kind I would not recommend this place because of the bed bugs!!!!!
I have stayed in small family run hotels throughout Europe and almost always love them. I don't have any expectation that it will be the Ritz Hotel with daily changes of towels or frills. However, there were an unusual amount of problems here. One is basic cleanliness. There are two shared bathrooms. One was clean enough. The other looked like something from a college frat house: overflowing trash can (that was never emptied in a four night stay), ants, dirt... that is inexcusable. The other problem was the noise both from within and outside the hotel. While you might think that the street would be fairly quiet as there is no interesting stuff on it, people like to hang out on it blasting music and yelling at all hours. Also, if anyone makes any noise from within the hotel, you will hear it. Oddly, the room didn't have a chair. Even the smallest, most basic (closet size) hotel rooms I've stayed in had a chair in them. There are chairs in a common area that you can appropriate, but they are so strangely uncomfortable that you might not want to bother. The bed was not terribly comfortable either, although that's a matter of taste, I guess. So why are my feelings mixed? I thought the owner (Rafael) was really nice and very interesting to talk with, although I only saw him there at the beginning and end (that is due to my being out touring all day...not any fault of his). I thought the price was great considering it is a capital city. The location is great for touring the Alfama district and so close to the metro only one stop from the major public transport hub. The breakfast was fine with me as I didn't feel like eating more than cereal in the morning (I think there were other options too). I wouldn't stay here again, but I acknowledge that you might not mind the place if you stick to the clean bathroom and aren't disturbed by street noise.…
The owners are very nice and they help you with everything. You can get everywhere you want by feet or you can take the metro that is really near. Use the tips for restaurants they give you. The portuguese ones are very near, cheap and tasty.
The room was nice. Clean bathroom. Nice owners that gave us a fan, because it was very hot in Lisbon. They told us where we can eat near the hotel. But when I've booked this guesthouse I woildn't think that Alfama is such a noise area. Every night me and my husband couldn't sleep at all. We woke up every hour. On night I went to bed at 5 a.m. It was the concer almost under our window. It was awful. After 7 days staying in this hotel we decided to move from this house just to sleep one night in silence and we askes owners to return our money for one night, but they refused us. If you don't like sleep all night long and have a headache every mornin this place for you.
