The room would be extremelly small for two people, but for three it was unacceptable. There was two beds for three of us, and one bed was 90cm width. The pension is in the heart of the city and really cheap.

At €40 a night, you shouldnt expect a luxury hotel. The rooms are small but there are private bathrooms, a TV, and wifi. However, the bed is firm and the bathroom is pretty bleak. Its cramped and getting the shower going (plus the low water pressure) was a half hour long adventure. But if you want to save money, youll...

Pensao is in excellent location just by Rossio, Figuera and all the bus and tram links. Room basic but serviced daily. We had balcony and view of castle. Breakfast was what you get at this price. Next door to great fish restaurant and do go up the challenging flight of steps opposite cos you will be rewarded at Taste of...

Pros: Location. In the city centre, next to the 3 main city plazas (Figuera, Rossio, Restauradores). Close to metro, tram and bus station. Excellent spot for a trips to baixa, alfama and barrio alto (all in walking distance). Breakfast included (only continental, but it was enough). A/c in room (we stayed in Sep and it was still really hot in...

Blackouts beyond counting, toilet won't flush, the room is grimy and there are stains in the linen and furniture. The floor is crooked and it seems they are trying to balance it with an evenly crooked wall. We are trying to switch to a room with at least a working toilet. The price was also surprisingly high.

This hostel is in the excellent location. The staff was friendly, rooms were cleaned daily and the breakfast was fair enough for the price we paid. Definitely recommend it if your purpose is to explore Lisbon and not to stay in a room ;)))

I totally understand that it is a cheap hotel but it must be clean and smell nice. When I checked in I found that my room is located right opposite the lift and every time when someone comes back to the hotel you can hear lots of noise. When I came into the bathroom I didn't find hot water but...

Safe place and great location. Buy your own shampoo. Expect the free All You Can Eat breakfast to be coffee, tea or hot chocolate with bread roll (white or brown) and cheese every morn. I was fine with it. My aircon didn't work but weather didn't require me to switch it on. (Last week of Nov 2014) The beds were...

Excellent location in city centre. Comfortable, clean and friendly. The hotel is a short walk from many of the tourist attractions and shopping areas. Ideal for all public transport. The hotel is good, however breakfast could be improved.

Right in the center of Lisbon near all the main squares. Beds really comfortable - rooms clean and clean towels every day - shower room average - shower over bath but nowhere for the shower head so had to hold it. Breakfast - continental rolls with ham, cheese jam. Good coffee machine. Very nice staff.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
