Location of pension is very good - metro/bus stations are nearby. It is also very close to the castle. 5 minutes from the pension is a supermarket (Pingo doce) where you can buy a local fruit and vegetables and many more. We were there for 7 days. We had some money hidden in our luggages in the room (because of...

We are a family of 3 persons (husband, wife & teenage daughter) stayed in the hotel for 2 nights during our recent trip to Lisbon from 5 July 2013. The real plus points of the hotel are it's great location, right next to Figuera Square (with Rosio & Mortim Monitz metro nearby) and the airconditioner working in our triple room...

What a GREAT Pensao! What a great value!! The staff is very helpful, the room was spotless! cool, and comfy for three hot and weary travelers. The breakfast is bountiful (the coffee was yummy). Location is very central, metro/bus and tourist information only steps away, restaurants close by. We had a blast!!

When I travelled to Lisbon, I expected to spend most of the day out and about, so the only things that were important to me when finding a room were a low price, a central location, and a clean, comfortable bed. If the room also had a bathroom, that would be a bonus. So I was pleasantly surprised that this...

The title says it all: this is a very simple hotel with very reasonable rates. The location is central and the rooms small. A standard breakfast is included in the price, which certainly is a plus. So it's okay to stay for a night or so if you are planning to be out most of the day and looking for...

Pensoa is really old. It seemed like time have stoped there many years ago. Reception staff was nice, but room - old old old again and so dusty. On the night table was so dusty that I could write there. I was also alfraid if linen was changed but was ok. Only on the overlay I have found one long...

We have cancelled our reservation after we'd seen our room (July 2012). Out of a minimum standard. Knackered both furniture and toilet facilities. Grungy room with dirty air conditioning and ugly bed linen with hair. We had to waist 1,5 hour to find a new hotel (high season) Remember: Don't be afraid to cancel your reservation. It's you money and...

Sure this place is far from being posh, but it is quite comfortable and clean. The staff are considerate, breakfast is substantial, bedclothes are neat. The main and indisputable advantage of this hotel is its location which is great. The price is also an undeniable plus. If ever back to Lisbon sure to stay here.

This hotel stands out because of its perfect location: right in the middle of the Rossio area, which is in between the charming mountains of Alfama (tram 28 that will take you there stops right around the corner) and the fun night life of Bairro Alto. The relatively cheap rooms are small but comfortable, have everything they need to have...

This hotel is very clean and in a superb central position, a two minute walk from Rossio metro. It’s about a five minute walk from where the airport shuttle drops you on the other side of Rossio Square. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s a cheap and cheerful restaurant next door, which was still happy to serve us at...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
