We stayed for one night on our way back from Lagos to the UK. The pensao is cheap, very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The location is ideal and we will return at some point in the future when we fly into or out of Lisbon.

We booked to stay in Lisbon for 1 night before moving onto the coast. I briefly researched the area before choosing Flor da Baixa for the price more than anything. The location is PERFECT! We got into Lisbon on the Metro, you need to change lines but there are only four and it's very easy to navigate (and clean!) and... More

I stayed here about a year ago and was not disappointed. Even though Lisbon has an abundance of accommodation to choose from and one is tempted to try different areas, one can make a bad choice. Having made one of those 'bad choices' earlier this year I decided to book here again. And again, I was not disappointed. It was... More

My husband and I spent four nights here just at the end of September, and the Flor da Baixa was perfect for our needs! Recent reviewers have mentioned noise, lack of an elevator, and the difficulty of finding the pension, so I'll address those topics: Noise: Yes, it was noisy, although not so much from the restaurants as from the... The pension is located smack in the middle of Lisbon, ideal to see the whole of the city. The staff is very friendly and tries to help whenever possible. There is always someone available at reception or close by. The room was very clean. Our room was located at the front (street side) and thus we had a lot of... More

I stayed in a room that was basic but very clean. This room had no toilet but a shower and sink. Clean bedsheet and a spacious room with a television. The room looked over the restaurants so it was extremely noisy until at least 1am and then at 7am the rubbish trucks came.

Extremely clean and very lovely hostel, with cosy and lovely rooms in the very center of Lisbon in a pedestrian street. Sheets and towels are changed daily, the staff is very nice and helpfull. The security is very good, with cameras and it is constantly locked with 0-24 working staff. They have good wi-fi and TVs with cable channels and... More

This place is on a walking street, so you need to wheel your baggage down a busy cobbled street. The entrance is small and not clearly visible and then you have to lug your baggage up 2 flights of stairs. We had a room on the street, so noisy you had drunks singing til the early hours. Clean for sure,... More

This 'pensao' is located close to the Rossio-place and Metro, and is thus the ideal starting point to visit most of the city. Hard to spot at first sight, and at the beginning it does feels odd, but once you're up, that's all gone. Without airconditioning and an elevator, you don't have all luxury, but you do have a very... Stayed here for one night as I could not get into the hotel of my choice for the whole of the period I was in Lisbon. It's nothing more than rooms in what is an old apartment. No entrance signs and go up a dirty flight of stairs to the reception. Need to ring a bell to be attended to.... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
