Welcome to Hotel Convento do Salvador. Located in the heart of Alfama, one of Lisbon's most legendary neighbourhoods, the Hotel is just steps away from the city's main tourist attractions: St. George's Castle, Sé Cathedral, traditional bars and restaurants, Fado houses, down-town Lisbon and Praça de Comércio, museums, belvederes, the famous no. 28 tram which passes right outside the door of the Hotel. Hotel Convento do Salvador is an innovative socio-economic project which sets out to support the cultural activities of the Centro Convento do Salvador, geared towards children and youths, and operating in the same building. The services offered by the Hotel, namely the organisation of meetings and events, are a result of a liaison with this Youth Centre, which has different types of venues and equipment at its disposal. A display of artworks by some of the most renowned Portuguese contemporary artists may be viewed throughout the Hotel, in both common and private areas.

Hotel Convento do Salvador is one of Alfama’s hidden treasures. I spent six nights here staying in a quiet single room equipped with every amenity I could wish for and a lovely view overlooking the convent courtyard. The room was kept spotlessly clean by the hard working, professional cleaning team. I really enjoyed the hotel breakfast which provided a very good choice of hot and cold food/drinks, the fresh fruit salad was delicious. When I arrived I was greeted by Fatima who made me feel so welcome and at home throughout my visit. Both she and all the Reception team were super helpful and knowledgeable and no request was too much trouble for them. I visited a variety of restaurants in Lisboa but my outstanding favourite was Restaurante Alpendre near the Cathedral, which serves fresh fish and other lovely Portuguese dishes at very reasonable prices. Thank you Fatima, for recommending it to me! The hotel Reception arranged a ‘Discover With Us’ tour of magical Sinatra and Cascais which was an amazing experience. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and if I return to Lisboa I will definitely stay here again.

Amazing hotel in a great area. The staff is wonderful and helpful and the breakfast delicious. The rooms are small though, but they face a courtyard so it’s quieter at night. Our only complaint is that the beds are so hard! The mattresses are extremely firm, I have a back ache from 3 nights of little sleep. If you are used to it maybe it’s no problem, besides that this hotel is amazing!

I remember that I was getting very concerned about my hotel room when I got to the neighborhood. It seemed like an older, run down area of the city. The hotel and room actually ended up very pleasant The hotel staff was very considerate and helpful. It was a small room, but accommodating considering the low price. The room was very clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family on a little bit of a budget. It’s a good value place!

3night, long weekend stay here. The hotel is a converted convent which gives it some lovely outside space in the centre of Alfama. The staff were very helpful and polite - nothing was too much trouble. As a single traveller it was great to get a ‘single’ room with a double bed and plenty of room to move. The interior of the hotel has been refitted beautifully, very modern and with all the little touches you’d expect. Breakfast is plentiful, but a little cramped when it’s busy. I arrived from the airport on the metro and disembarked at Martin Moniz station. It’s only a 9 minute walk BUT it’s ALL uphill!! It was a good introduction for what lay ahead in my exploring days. No matter how you approach this hotel on foot you will be climbing steep inclines. But that added to the charm for me!

Tucked away in Alfama this is a very nicely converted hotel. We were there for 6 nights so went for the duplex junior suite (2 small cells on top of each other!) very nicely done out with a large comfortable bed and lovely wood stairs. The AC is efficient and you get a comfy sitting area. My husband wasn’t too happy with the bathroom being downstairs. A useful safe, fridge and kettle are provided and there is a very good breakfast each morning with freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly cooked bread and a hot selection as well as lots of fruit and pastries. The hotel is like a cloister around a courtyard with a pleasant lounge area. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a few problems with the bathroom when we arrived which were promptly sorted out. The area is very busy (it’s right next to a popular tourist viewpoint and on the 28 tram route – in fact the tram goes round 2 sides of the hotel. This does make it a bit noisy especially in the evening with tram noises, plus the local young men using skateboards on the marble terraces above is a bit annoying as they crash around. But the rooms are reasonably soundproofed and it goes quiet at night. There was imperfect soundproofing between our room and next door however which meant that if we had noisy neighbours they were audible. It’s walking distance to a lot of things if you are OK with hills. The tram passes close by but can be very busy at times. It’s not so handy for the metro. We found the most reliable was to get around was to walk down to the cruise terminal where you could get buses going up the river or into the train station more easily than the tram. There is a charitable organisation associated with this hotel so it’s a sound choice. And Alfama is an amazing area, very easy to get lost but with little restaurants everywhere.

A very good hotel, located in the center of Alfama neighborhood, tram station no. 28 is very close to where you can immediately reach the subway or train stations and from there anywhere. Thank you to the reception staff, who are very kind and solve any problem, very clean and welcoming, grade 10 !!

This place is lovely, well designed, not huge but good size rooms. Clever touches. Spotless bathroom with all your needs. Hairdryer toiletries shower cap, and a little stool in under the sink. I found it very useful. Good size comfortable bed. Small wardrobe built in with safe and draws below. Sliding door with full length mirror. Tea/coffee kettle. case rack. Our overlook a lovely courtyard. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast is adequate and varied continental style, outside in the courtyard weather permitting if not on the first floor. It is right in the middle of Alfama, this is traditional Lisbon. And close to and within easy reach of all the sites and attractions. We enjoyed walking around, but you will need sensible shoes for all the hills. There is lots of options for for ways around the city. Trams, Metro, taxi, tuk tuk etc.

A unique hotel in my experience. Well converted from a convent to a hotel, meaning it has a built in courtyard. Breakfast was good, we booked a room with a river view , which was great. The staff were, without exception, helpful and very pleasant. Location wise it's perfect if you want to be in the hub of old town. It's located on a quiet side road, off the main tram 28 route. A smallish hotel, independent and very clean. Tram stops are a few hundred yards away, as are restaurants, view points and other tourist spots. The castle and monastery all within 5 -10 min walk. The only downside.. walking anywhere from the hotel will result in hills.. 🙂 but that's not unusual in Lisbon.

I stayed for 13 nights as I wanted to see as much of Lisbon as possible, as well as a couple of day trips. I stayed for 10 nights in a room with river view which was really beautiful to wake up to and see. As that room was not available for the last 3 nights I then moved to a single room overlooking the hotel courtyard. The single room was a little quieter at night. Would recommend this hotel as it was well organised, close to most attractions and in the historical area of Alfama. Breakfasts were amazing help yourself buffet style, and set you up for the day.
