For our fist visit to Setubal, we selected this small family owned resort located 10 min from downtown but sited with a sublime views of vineyards and the mountains of Arrabida national park. The rooms have all the modern conveniences and are located in an historic family Quinta or new villas. Our breakfasts and dinners in the hotel's restaurant were fresh and delicious. We appreciated the personal service that made us feel welcome. When they learned of our Thanksgiving traditions and that we missed our pumpkin pie, the chef made us a fresh pumpkin tart that had all the flavors of home...wow! We loved our horseback ride and hikes through the vineyards and park and the area tour and private yacht tour arranged through the resort (thanks, Katika!) If you want to experience the beauty of the Arrabida area but want the service and comfort of a 5 star resort, this is the place! We will return!…
Casa Palmela is a charming and cozy place. The setting is exceptional, in the morning you take your breakfast with the vineyard view, amazing really. It's good to go to Casa Palmela for a relaxing time, ryding horse, yoga classes under the tree or just cycling in the property and vicinities, with the amazing Serra da Árrabida landscape. The restaurant food is refined and up to the best michelin restaurants with a small menu but dishes confectioned with local ingredients from the property. But the best of Hotel Casa Palmela is João Sousa, a staff member who takes care of every customer as his own family. From the first day he can call you by your name and makes sure al you need and beyond is carefully attended. João Sousa is a globetrotter, having served in the cruise industry, he knows how to make you feel just conformable and satisfied. An exceptional man that knows his profession.…
I want to send a short review and warn anyone who is headed to Casa Palmela to think twice if they booked one of the three villas on the property. Let me begin by saying that the overall property is very charming and in a great setting. The hotel restaurant serves good food but the service is incredibly slow especially in the evenings. My one huge complaint is with the villas. Specifically they are located in a separate building and it is prone to sewer gas buildup (the housekeeping staff told me this happens all of the time). From the obvious point that no one wants to smell excrement during their stay, sewer gases have very serious health side effects. We immediately brought this to the attention of mgmt and they responded by "cleaning" the room again. This obviously did nothing to alleviate the problem. They are well aware of this issue because there were no fewer than 8 air fresheners in the room but refuse to fix it properly or take these villas out of the reservations system because they are chasing every last dollar of revenue. The front desk staff didn't care to make amends and the hotel general manager failed to call me to discuss the situation which is an incredibly poor reflection on his character. I write this review as an experienced world traveler (I am a Hyatt Globalist and Marriott Ambassador level so I spend quite a few nights in hotels on an annual basis) and rarely if ever review one of my stays because on the whole things usually meet my expectations. This was not the case at Casa Palmela and I would personally never stay here again and have told all of my friends never to stay here as well as filed a complaint directly with Hyatt who has this hotel in the "Small Luxury Hotel" collection. Please learn from our experience and avoid this property. There are so many wonderful hotels in this part of Portugal no reason to take your chances at this place.…
In full disclosure, we were not guests at the hotel. We are local residents of Setubal who have frequented the hotel restaurant and have wandered through the lovely grounds of the estate. There was a time when staying at a great hotel was the endgame. Service, setting and ambience were the important elements of the event. This hotel scores high on all of these. We would love to stay here for that experience but it is not necessary in our case. We pass this hotel frequently and one day decided to visit which has led to several more visits. The grounds – which are extensive – include a large vineyard and a natural landscape with multiple trails. The hotel philosophy is one that is very inclusive as they want all guests to experience the magnificence of their property. You can come for coffee, take an hour hike and have breakfast or just leave. As a non-guest of the hotel, you never feel pressured to make more of your visit. We have come for both breakfast and dinner. Our dinner there was absolutely divine and service was well beyond the standard. Unfortunately, breakfast was a bit of a disappointment and definitely could have been better, although we had a great morning hiking to a view of the Arrabida. We give high marks to the staff and chef (for dinner) and highly recommend at visit.…
Casa Palmela is honestly the best value for money hotel in Portugal. You wont find this calmness, luxury and splendid views elsewhere, withou paying 5 times the Price of Casa Palmela. We loved it so much that we decided to stay for even longer! Ask for Salvador Holstein, the manager, he can tell you everything you want to know about the place and region! See the pictures. What a place!
Really nice hotel friendly but very shot staffed which is a shame , no minibar in the room either, would expect a little more from an isolated Waited for over 30 minutes for someone to come to the room and and fix the coffee machine , no one came so we gave up .. not great for the advertised standard
Such a wonderful hotel. We were lucky to have beautiful weather so we could sit outside and go for walks in de grounds. All staff was friendly en helpful. The room was comfortable and had a nice patio. Breakfast was nice, but not really a 5* hotel worthy. A little to basic to our taste. But all in all a great place to stay
My family visited Hotel Casa Palmela for a wonderful week in December just before Christmas. We stayed in one of the villas, which was beautifully decorated with lots of space and a lovely sitting room with an open fireplace. The hotel itself has one of the most stunning settings, overlooking vineyards within the Arabida National Park. It is a truly romantic and special spot. But what really sets this hotel apart from others is the amazing service and genuine hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the excellent concierge team assisted us with every aspect of our stay, making us feel as comfortable and welcome as they possibly could. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for. Our children loved being able to run around on their own and enjoy the enormous grounds and wonderful, friendly doggies! We also enjoyed excellent massages in the spa, which is nestled amongst the gardens. The restaurant was also superb with extremely professional staff and wonderful Portuguese cuisine. The hotel manager, Salvador, has really created a wonderful hotel with a team who pride themselves on creating special and memorable experiences for their guests. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We will certainly be back!…
Wonderful staff and beautiful grounds at this traditional Portuguese family home in the heart of Arrábida. The room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view. Staying at Casa Palmela is highly recommended.
The views were magical, the staff super friendly, we had a memorable time. Cannot recommend this place enough, we'll definitely be back again, not sure what else to say as I need to type 200 words, but just go, you won't regret it
