Detailed Reviews
Came here for a weeks break in March and had a relaxing time. The hotel was spotlessly clean in all areas with strict Covid restrictions still in place. The room was spacious with a decent sized bed and large screen tv. It was cleaned every day and towels were changed as well. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and there is plenty of choice with both English style cooked and continental. The coffee is amazing with various choices including hot chocolate. Evening meals are also served in the restaurant there is a salad bar and hot food choices and the wine list is extensive with some value for money excellent Portuguese wines on offer. The hotel is on a beautiful clean beach with a cafe/bar attached to the hotel, additionally plenty of good shops and cafes and bars within walking distance. The staff are wonderful from reception to room cleaners, service came with a smile. Would definitely recommend. Thanks to Elza who recommended a brilliant hairdresser and manicurist.

This hotel gives you the biggest bang for your Euros. The amazing view from the balcony overlooks the harbour, and across the long sandy beaches in the peninsular on the other side.
We planned to stay one night, but, ended up staying for three nights because of its price, A1 location, friendly and helpful staff who all speak good English. The are many good restaurants within 5-15 minutes walk. The restaurant prices are all about the same, and they offer excellent meat and fish dishes at about 8 Euros upwards. I chose a mixed fish dish at 8 Euros, and it came with 4 large sardine size fish, large piece of salmon, a large piece of fish, maybe cod???, plus chips, and salads. A large bottle of wine from 7 Euros from the wine list. For us, the best restaurant is 'Nova Dioa', where all the staff are friendly and welcoming, especially, the Chef/Owner, but, they tried their best to communicate in English, no English menu!!, but, the place was crowded most nights with locals. This restaurant is only 5 minutes from the hotel.

Looking at a couple of leaflets in the lobby. Apparently the receptionist said 'hello' and 'morning.' I would not have known she was talking to me personally for the following reasons...a) I was look at a wall of leaflets not anyone. b) there were 10 people at the reception desk , so i would have assumed the conversation was for them. c) I do not speak Portuguese so how would i know.
Older receptionist approached me and was rude and sarcastic because she felt I had ignored her?? This was not tye case and I stated the points a b and c above. There is no need to be rude or tske things personally. Really poor experience.

Very good hotel and an absolute bargain for the price. Located centrally and right by the main restaurant area in Setubal. Staff were helpful, rooms were spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Buffet breakfast, wi-fi and parking were included in the 45 euro per night price. Had a great view across the water from one of the front rooms on a higher floor. Couldn't have asked for more.

We stumbled on the Mar e Sol hotel and were delighted with our 7th floor view across the harbour and the price of 45 euros including breakfast and underground parking. You could even sit on the loo and look out across the water. That's cool. It's also in the area with all the best restaurants.

We stayed here in mid July for a sports competition. The hotel is basic but had all we needed. The air con was very good and was needed due to the heat ! We had a triple room. It was big enough but basic. No tea and coffee in the room. The internet was only good in the reception area, it was useless in the rooms. We had a room facing the main square (facing the sea). The noise was soooo loud from the night clubs and local festival. Take your ear plugs. Hair dryers are available at reception. No safety deposit boxes in your room however reception had a safe that you could use.
The hotel is situated near loads of bars and restaurants, it is also a 5 mins walk from a sandy beach.
Brekkie is basic. The coffee is poor.
There is a pool table to hire in the bar for 4 euros per hour.
All in all a clean and basic hotel that is well located in the town.

I ended up in this hotel by chance because the others I went to before without a reservation were fully booked...
What times do we live in when hardly anything can be made without a reservation?!
Anyway, my room on the 7th floor was comfortable enough and had a nice view on the port.
Breakfast was very good.
Recommended.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as our son was competing in a sporting event in the town. As it turned out, the location was perfect - less than 5 mins walk to the sea and right by all the best restaurants. We had a triple room, not massive but adequate. It is a fairly basic hotel, nothing fancy at all but clean. The downside for us was that our room was right opposite the nightclubs which are open Thurs/Fri/Sat night blasting out very loud music until the early hours. So I would either recommend earplugs or asking for a room on a higher floor! Good views from the front of the hotel with a balcony; no view or balcony if you are situated at the back. No wifi in our room but downstairs in the reception area.

I have just completed the end of a four day booking for twenty four persons at the Mare Sol Hotel. It was the first time I have used the hotel for such a group. The final result was on leaving the group made the following comment . 1) The rooms were all very well furnished and always attended to each day 2) The breakfast was more than the normal continental expected 3) The dinning area on the ground floor was spacious and very well furnished 4) The location at the end of the main avenue was ideal for visiting the centre of the city or the local beaches was ideal , which ever you wanted to visit was only 15 mins walk max. 5) The headed by the hotel owner "Maria" was always available to attend any requirement of any of the hotels guests 6) The costs of an average room was 55 euro was very economic and very good value .
