My wife and I stayed in Hotel Nova Sintra for 3 nights on a visit to Sintra. The hotel is situated very close to Sintra rail station and within walking distance of Sintra historic centre. We had booked the double attic room, but on arrival we were offered the twin attic at the front of the hotel (the window you can see at the top of the photo of the hotel) as it had better views and it was not occupied. This turned out to be a good swap as the room had fantastic views of the town of Sintra and the Moorish Castle high on the hills of Sintra. This castle is lit up at night giving it the appearance of a castle floating in the sky. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and very friendly, speaking excellent English. We were also given a key to a gated parking area near to the hotel where we could park our car for free, which was very useful as there is only limited paid parking outside the front of the hotel. The hotel itself is a boutique style hotel which is charmingly decorated. It has a lovely sun terrace with gardens outside, and though this looks and feels very secluded it is just above a busy road with shops below. The hotel itself is very quiet and peaceful though. The room was very clean, spacious and nicely decorated with very comfortable beds. It had a very nice en-suite shower room. Being the attic the ceilings were a little low near the edges but that was the only drawback. There was a sofa and chairs around a coffee table and there was also TV. There were no coffee making facilities in the room but there was a free coffee machine in the reception area. The hotel is an old building and has no lift so the elderly or infirm may not want to take the attic rooms, but the hotel owner kindly helped us up with our cases. Breakfast was very good. There was hot food (sausage, eggs, beans) as well as fruit, cereals, a variety of bread and cakes, yoghurts, coffee, tea, orange juice etc. All taken in a nice little restaurant area. Also, the hotel does not allow children, probably because of the stairs, which could be seen as a plus point for some who want a peaceful stay. Overall, I highly recommend this charming little hotel and if I return to Sintra I would not hesitate to use it again.…
This hotel is a big surprise. Personnel is very guest friendly and offer good service. Rooms are simple but clean. Breakfast also very good with yoghurts, Bread, eggs, fruits and Portugese pastries. The terrace is very wide with an excellent view on the Castelo dos Mouros and Palacio Nacional and has sufficient seats to relax after a trip to the palaces.
This is an excellent boutique hotel. The location, rooms, and breakfast are all first class. What makes Hotel Nova Sintra really special is it's staff. Mr. Bernardo, Phillip, and Francisco all went out of their way to make our stay great. A special thank you to Mr. Bernardo for helping us get to the Pena Palace early to avoid the crowds. Superb service on all levels.
This is a lovely boutique hotel, who’s owners put every effort into making your stay comfortable and welcoming. The hotel is located an easy 5 minute walk away from the train station, we caught the train from Lisbon and found the hotel easily. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk away from the centre of Sintra, the walk has stunning views and gardens and pieces of artwork to enjoy. All the buses to the palaces are just outside or by the train station. The hotel is immaculately clean and smells lovely when you walk in, we stayed 3 nights in a room on the ground floor which has a private terrace, The bed was really comfortable and the room was bright and freshly decorated. The manager of the hotel is very helpful on local information or anything you need in the hotel. Breakfast is very well organised and displayed really well for people to help themselves, good choice of breakfast options and fruit. The hotel has a lovely terrace to relax on and have drinks. Would highly recommend this hotel if your sightseeing in Sintra, trip-advisor seems to have some very old photos on so the hotel has definitely been refurbished…
Great location, lovely patio outside with views. Helpful staff. Very long flight of steps from the street, I felt like I was imposing asking for help at the desk. Breakfast was minimal and unappetizing, maybe we just hit it at the wrong time (9:30). Eggs dry and overcooked, coffee not tasty, white bread for toast. The room was fine. The sanitary wrapped cup in the bathroom had not been cleaned from its previous use. Also, really, you have to go to Sintra, but in July, it's just not a good experience. Long lines for the bus, lines at ticket booths, the one-way road is clogged with cars, so regardless of your mode of transport, it takes forever to get to the sites. Nothing to do with the hotel, but maybe it's partly why I'm grumpy.
"Rooms at the front have wonderful views. Can particularly recommend the twin attic room for its excellent views."Read full review
"Again, there are no elevators, so if you have difficulty with stairs and luggage, choose a room on the ground floor."Read full review
