I booked this hotel through Broadway travel to celebrate our wedding anniversary.A week before trip my friend and his wife decided to come with us and booked through Jet2.Our deal gave us an upgrade to a superior sea view and have to say the room was fantastic but my friend asked for an upgrade to be near us he had to pay 75 € per night for a room similar to ours but without a separate walk in shower which was the highlight of our room,I wouldn’t have paid it,way overpriced. Our room no 631 had that wonderful walk in power shower which was absolute bliss and also a bath + shower head, also lovely.Room had nearly all we needed, only thing missing was iron that you had to get from reception, lovely balcony and maids were very nice keeping everything tidy and clean. While we were there the hotel was not busy as neither was Funchal so I could see where there would be a problem with sun beds when place is full.Pool was freezing even though they say it is heated.I queried this and was told it was to stop covid spreading which is complete rubbish as the inside pool was warm.Hotel is never 5 star but I found the staff were very nice and polite except for the guy who done the omelettes who was a total misery and should look for a new job as he obviously hates that one.he should take a leaf out of a young lady Fatima who worked at pool bar as well as restaurant and was a joy to behold doing her job with a smile,Hotel was very clean, well manicured gardens and a lovely man with a Harris hawk going around at breakfast keeping the pigeons at bay.Breakfast is what brings the hotel down,it really is disastrous. The fruits, cereals etc.are lovely but the hot breakfast is terrible. The fried eggs are put out too many at a time, the beans are from one of those gallon tins with no taste as is the mushrooms. The bacon was ok but always cold like the eggs, the sausages were those mini hot dog things that are also tasteless, won’t even go into scrambled egg, horrible. One toaster that is older than me and porridge that to a Scotsman like me was shameful, have to say the coffee was ok.All in alll we had a lovely time as there is some excellent restaurants all close by and a nice stroll into Funchal where you can see the cruise ships in the harbour. One last thing, hotel did have entertainment but it was on too early, around 8_00pm when everyone was having dinner so there was no one in the bar to hear it.Also they advertise a 3 hour happy hour but doesn’t say what you get.

Hotel's Favourite
We returned on 17.721. From a 2 week stay in a Master Suite and could not be more pleased with the whole experience. All of the staff were so obliging and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble , the reception team were particularly helpful with our pre flight COVID tests, arranging them and obtaining the results. Despite the Covid restrictions the restaurant staff made every meal special, extra effort was made at Dinner. The Covid precautions were thorough but not intrusive, it gave a feeling of safety throughout. Special mention must be made of Lenine and Denete who were clearly very happy in their work, their wine recommendations enhanced the food perfectly. Our room was spotless and the room attendant first class. Our towels were changed daily and the bed linen frequently. The view from the terrace was panoramic. We will return!

My wife and I with our 10 year old son stayed in the Melia Madeira Mare at the end of December 2021 for 6 nights We had stayed here before 4 years ago. We stayed in a Royal Suite (half board basis) which was spacious, quiet, clean and had stunning views of the ocean. Breakfast and evening meals were good - plenty of choice, good service and ample room between tables. It was our son's birthday during our stay and Tomas (Restaurant Manager) organised a birthday cake for him which was lovely - a big thank you to Tomas. We used the indoor swimming pool which was fantastic. We did not use the outdoor pool or the outside terraces. We used the underground parking which worked very well. Our only comment was that as we had booked the most expensive room it would come with a large balcony. In fact the balcony was not wide enough for a sunbed (although it is double width). We understood that to get a large balcony we should have booked a Master Suite (but these do not have separated rooms). So please be advised: a Master Suite has non-separated rooms with a large balcony and a Royal Suite has separated rooms with a narrower balcony. Final conclusion: An excellent hotel, with helpful staff in a good location with stunning views. Fully recommended.

I was quite happy with my stay at Melia. Customer service was good. My room was big. Nice comforter. Decent terrace facing the ocean. I only used the indoor pool which was nice. The room was quiet. I did not hear my neighbor. Good quality of sleep. The breakfast buffet was okay. They should upgrade the coffee machines, which were like antiques, taking forever to make coffee and taste not good. Every morning I had to rush to coffee machine first as it was clearly the bottleneck of breakfast. The hotel has some distance to town center. Taxi cost €10 every time going to town. I would consider staying here again despite old coffee machine and taxi need.

Sorry, but this is not 5 star hotel. Receptionists are not polite, for food for breakfast they have very poor choise. We get sick (3 people of 4) after hotel food. We had included dinner, but we eat it only once from 7 days, just checked but after we also feld badly. The coffee mashine is working so slowly, they have two choices of coffee from mashine and the other one but it is not good. Rooms are not bad, everything looks clean, but we get allergie from bedding. We do not recommend this hotel.
