I was very pleased with the buffet breakfast as having a very good choice of items with a very attentive staff. Unfortunately some of these cooked items should have been warmer. The care and safeguards to protect everyone from Covid were as good as anywhere I’ve experienced. The hotel generally was spotlessly clean. The Al la carte evening meal was an unexpected pleasure with very attentive staff. Unfortunately as we had booked Half board for 14 nights we had to have the same menu every night of 8 or 9 starter and 8 or 9 main courses with a few sweet courses. In theory this sounds good but when you find the rump steak and the steak used on the Beef Aspargus (on skewers) rather tough this reduced the main menu by approximately 25% together with the odd dish unliked by us made frequent repetition inevitable. On mentioning this at reception I was advised the chef may consider any special requests, surely it was the Chefs duty to offer specials etc for our choice? Otherwise the food preparation, presentation and general taste was done superbly by the Chef. I was disappointed not to find any details in our room regarding the resort but particularly what was available in the hotel complex eg massage, car parking etc which we later learnt was available. Out of the hotel “happy hour” drinks were expensive.

Visited madiera for a 9 day break over New year to see the fireworks. It was lovely seeing all the cruise ships and the fireworks. But after that I think madiera is very boring. We stayed in the 4 star pestana palms it was a lovely place but there was no entertainment and nothing to do. And for a 4 star not even a bottle of water to greet us,I've stayed in Italy in a 3 star that was much better. Don't get me wrong the people and staff were lovely but the hotel let's them down. Sorry madiera you let me down, I won't go back

This property is in the middle of Lido, the main tourist area so great access to many restaurants, almost all with outdoor seating. The property is down a pretty steep hill so you need to go up this hill, about 100 meters. Once at the top you have the city at your fingertips. The hotel is right on the coast with exceptional views, pools and direct ocean swimming access.

Room Tip: Marina view is excellent but all of the rooms in the main tower offer ocean views.

The hotel is situated at the bottom of a very steep hill but well located for shops, restaurants and bus stop (top of hill) We booked a superior studio which was 8th floor overlooking the Lido. It was spacious with a nice balcony plenty of wardrobe space a powerful shower and small kitchenette with fridge kettle 2 hob rings and enough crockery etc for 2 people. Room could do with redecoration as wallpaper starting to peel off otherwise we were happy with it. The breakfasts were excellent and we were on half board. Food was served in the "quinta" which was charming and the food (3 courses) was very good. The only drawback was the menu never changed so by the 2nd week we had tried every meal. The Xmas Eve dinner and entertainment was spectacular and the staff were fabulous and excellent and made our time there special. Sauna and steam room adequate free of charge. We saw some beautiful sunsets from our room (812) and were lucky enough to spend a wonderful Christmas there with wonderful staff. Thank you Pestana Palms for kind Madeiran hospitality and best wishes for 2022. Carmel and Bernard.

This was our second visit to this hotel and once again the service was excellent, the room was spotlessly clean, the food was excellent and we could not find fault anywhere. We have already booked to visit twice in 2022. We had a perfect holiday. Ian and Valerie - Bolton UK
