Due to a mix up with the travel company, we were not expecting to stay at this hotel. Whilst the location and cleanliness could not be faulted, the room had very little storage space, the balcony was narrow and overlooking a noisy street and the food was cold.
The hotel is in a little side street off the main road Rua 5 de Outubro. It is a quiet location. Some rooms are looking onto the Rua dos Netos and some over a vacant lot onto Rua 5 Outubro. Good points--- very friendly and helpful at reception, restaurant and cleaning staff . Very clean. A good roof sun deck overlooking the city to the harbour and sea. Plenty of seating area at reception and a small library. Restaurant on 6th floor. Free access to internet terminal near reception. Restaurant opposite and corner shop along the street, sells everything. This is a 3* hotel no frills, good rooms. Lift. Car parking is in a multi-story on Rua 5 Out. not part of the hotel, but they have a special deal with them, show your hotel card and the car park gives you a pass card were you can go in or out at any time day or night the cost is only €2.50 per day. There is no street parking. Only one down side to this hotel was that the food wasn't fantastic, only a choice of 1 meat or 1 fish meal. I believe that they are going to expand the hotel onto the vacant lot and have a pool on the roof, and upgrade to 4* . The hotel is about 8 min. walk down hill to the main street and sea front. Busses pass the hotel on the Rua 5 Out.…
i cannot understand the negative reviews-they must have been in a different hotel to me. The situation of the hotel near to the old town was excellent; the room, apart from thy bathroom which did have limited access, was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice; staff were always smiling, at least to us, and keen to offer advice. Could not and would not criticise thsi hotel
I spend some days in the hotel with my family during the year end, and I was not impressed. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were always clean, bu don't expect a lot from the room facilities as rooms are small and soundproofing between rooms is very weak. Breakfast and meal offer/options is very limited. The only outstanding place in the hotel is the roof top when in fact is probably one of the best spots in the island to see the firework. But even this space can have much more utility with the appropriate conditions. Location is good to walk in city center. We had an issue with the lunch arrangement that management was not able to deal with and did not act professionally in order to ensure customer satisfaction.
Only good thing about this place was location, they don't use rooftop bar and you can't buy drink whenever you want as the bar downstairs only opens certain times of day, when arriving for breakfast you was lucky to see staff with smile on their faces, and as for pool well we never seen one, I go to funchal every year and this was the most unpleasant stay we ever had.
