This was my first ever visit to Madeira and I was travelling solo so wanted a place that was central, functional, clean, quiet, good wi-fi and cosy - ASPA provided all of these. I had their most basic apartment: room with kitchenette in and bathroom. I asked about a balcony and they gave me a room with a tiny balcony overlooking the street - perfect for me. I found the apartment suited all my needs - I could pop into the old town in a few minutes walk, ditto going to the supermarket, there's several decent cafes and restaurants nearby and I slept well - admittedly, the street out front can be a bit noisy but nothing unbearable. The only employee I met - you get a code to get in - was the young female cleaner and she was delightful, even letting me store my baggage in her workspace when I checked out (I had an evening flight). ASPA does not offer luxury/boutique hotel accommodation but I didn't expect such. What it does offer is a comfy, convenient place to stay while you explore Funchal. My only dislike was the chairs at the table - as someone who spends a lot of time either on their laptop or reading books they were bloody uncomfortable! Beyond that, all good!

We were really disappointed in this stay! The apartment did not match with the online pictures. Online it looked modern and bright. Our apartment is in need of renovation. it was worn down, noisy by guests, a smell in the closet, old pillows, a breakfast room without windows, bad coffee, a chair with a hole on the balcony, staff hard to reach, etc.

Spent a week here. It was rather difficult to rate this hotel. According to the hotel services provided I believe it is a one or maximum two star hotel. HOWEVER in my own scale the great service, good location and comfortable sleep increase the rating up to two stars. The rooms were very basic. Comfortable beds, The entire hotel is in a need of some basic renovations. For example the bathroom didn't face the modern European hotel standards in my opinion. The breakfast was good. During the Covid time the hygienic situation was very well taken care of. Everything was very clean at the hotel and the rooms were cleaned daily. There were no shower amenities provided in the bathroom by the hotel. We bought some soap and shampoo at a local store. The microwave in the room didn't work properly. Also be warned that some of the rooms on the upper floors are reached only by some very steep stairs. The staff was very kind and helpful. All in all, a positive visit.

These apartments are in an excellent location: they are in the old city but slightly away from the most touristic areas. My room had lovely traditional parquet floors and wicker decorations. It was perfectly clean and there was a well-equipped kitchenette and bathroom with rainforest shower. The hotel has an excellent buffet breakfast downstairs which includes bread, ham, cheese, eggs, cereal, and tasty Madeiran pastries. There is also a roof terrace garden. The staff were responsive and helpful when I had questions. My room was on the first floor and there was some noise outside the first night when I had the window open - street sounds and someone nearby having a party - but it was a budget room so that was understandable. There is parking in the street outside in the blue spaces as well as a large public carpark at the top of the street (off Rua Pimenta Aguiar at the corner of Rua das Cruzes). It's free overnight on weekdays (8am-8pm) and about Euro 2.50 for 4 hours parking during business hours. Coins are required to buy a ticket. The hotel also provides 24 hour parking in a private carpark for an additional cost, but I didn't use it.

The Aspa is a great base to explore the Funchal. Few minutes from the center, supermarkets even closer. No problem with finding the place to park the car close to the apartament. When staying in the hotel we felt really great and excited :)
