Quinta do Convento da Franqueira is a historic convent that the Gallie family have owned for about 60 years and made their own. Piers and Kate have run it since the mid '80s and have 4 rooms for B&B and also have 2 one bed roomed flats for let. Set in large grounds about 5 km from Barcelos. We stayed...

This is a really great place to stay - Piers and Kate are really great hosts and the house itself is wonderful. The rooms are comfortable and clean and with everything you need - including a fan if you're too hot and there is a guest sitting area inside and bottles of local Vinho Verde and beer in the fridge...

We stayed here for six nights in June after having stayed at the Quinta on our first trip to the Minho five years ago. I echo all the sentiments of the earlier review and amplify them. Piers and Kate are great hosts and we couldn't have been happier to return. We have added to our family since our first visit...

My wife and i stayed at Quinta do Convento in early summer. It was the highlight of our few weeks in Portugal. Easy drive up from Porto, just 40 minutes to a quiet, sparsely populated beach and wildlife refuge... simply a wonderful, warm, and quiet retreat for 2 days or 2 weeks. The town of Barcelos -- 15 minutes away...

Quinta da Franqueira is a piece of paradise hidden in the hills outside of Barcelos. We stayed for four nights at this luxurious B&B where attention to detail and simple elegance add to a beautiful setting. The convent has been beautifully restored while retaining the original footprint. The rooms are spotless with lovely plush linens and comfortable beds and pillows....

It's difficult to fault this place. Even my wife, who can find faults even in a perfect husband like me, agrees with me, and that's a first in 35 years of marriage. Quinta Do Convento Da Franqueira is a former Franciscan monastery partially converted into a gorgeous guest house. The two-feet thick granite walls of the building surround an idyllic...

What bliss to arrive, switch off the engine, enter the cool of the house interior, and then relax in the total peace and calm, apart from the tinkle of the fountain and occasional noise of a frog or from the dog, of the garden. Piers had sent us excellent maps of how to get to the Convent from Porto airport,...
