Located along the extensive centenarian oaks avenue, between the Shrine of Santa Maria Madalena and the Chapel of Santa Marta de Leão, place of ancient religious pilgrimage, the Hotel was built on the ruins of the Franciscan Convent of Santa Maria Madalena do Monte, built in the late eighteenth century ordered by Dom Miguel. This Convent was used in the past for the organization of important Events and to accommodate those who seek the perfect place to rest and ill from respiratory diseases, due to the fresh and pure air and the favorable microclimate. The remaining parts of the old Convent are still visible today inside the Hotel, not only by its decoration, with almost museological display of religious icons and through the usage of stone walls and indoor gardens, but also for the well preserved and beautiful Chapel of Santo António da Paz. Strategically located at 40km from Porto and at 5 minutes from the historic center of Braga and Shrines of Sameiro and Bom Jesus, we invite you

Dear Management of the hotel, please, use all the reviews to make this place nice for all the guests. Everything is written here. Only issues what cannot be solved by management is huge humidity level - water comes from mountains all around the hotel. But newertheless, we were there at november and we asked for simple electrical heater - we never got one. Then we asked for kettle - no. No hangers in the wardrobe, not very cleans sheets. Spa area was good for a resason that we were alone there, no other guests. Hammam is a disaster, sauna is more or less usable. However, this is a place with history. Churches around are just brilliant. Staff is nice. Management should try to manage to pay attention to all the comments, it does not cost millions to invent simple things what would make this place a gem!

Can I start with the cockroach in the bathroom at 3 a.m.? Or the intense smell of sewer at the pool area? When we arrived we noticed there as a towel that was stained, so we put in on the floor to be exchanged the next day by the cleaners. They picked it up, folded, and put it back as if nothing. The rooms are old, smelly, and the refrigerator made the loudeste noise making it impossible to sleep. Also I could hear everything in the next room. It looks like an abandoned hotel with no supervision , just standing there. Do not recommend, and will not come back ever.

If you can pay more money to stay somewhere else please do it. the hotel is outdated. you can hear people talking, taking a shower, music playing very loud at late night hours and the restaurant food is ok. I ordered a fish for my daughter for 7 euros somehow the waiter clamied she didnt understand what i order and upgraded her food to a 35 euro fish. I ended up paying for it but next time i will make sure i pick a better place. The rooms are old and the walls are dirty. save yourself a headache.

4 star hotel but very dated. The bed had springs sticking into our backs. The linen was old and stained. The card to open the door was faulty and noone was interested in fixing it. All up very disappointing.

The 4* rating is a work of fiction, to be 4* requires certain standards to be met, there are only 3 people on duty at night - a chef, waiter, and receptionist, no manager, no night porter, no barman, the waiter who is the barman, waiter, maitre d', cocktail waiter ,and I assume room service waiter as well, is run ragged. I felt too guilty on the second night to ask for drinks and got my own from my van. The manager was never present. When I requested to see him at 10pm he was in his bed, in the morning (apparently) in town fetching 'something'. The staff were very nice and they were professional, even though they were clearly under extreme pressure. The shower head leaked, the pool area is literally a health hazard with large hole in the paving around the pool and loose tiles, breakfast is diabolical, considering the 4* rating and the prices of food in Portugal. This is a beautiful location and could be a jewel in the hills of Falperra, but is seemingly destined to be ruined by poor management. I will be writing to the Golden Tulip group regarding this place and the Hotel rating authority. There are better staffed cafes in the town centre and it is unreasonable and inexcusable to work staff like this and try to claim a 4*credential, without providing a full service, basically a clean truck stop. Please don't cut and paste the usual apologetic reply, it means nothing. I've already explained my reasons for not addressing this fully during my stay at the hotel.
