In the heart of Porto’s Ribeira neighborhood, The House is a wonderful hotel primarily due its helpful and kind staff. Jorge, Marta, Riu, and others took wonderful care of us as we stayed over the Christmas holiday when few services were available. They changed one of the rooms cheerfully when we found it too small, they suggested walks, and they called around for reservations for us. Their English was excellent which was very helpful as we know no Portuguese. We asked them questions virtually every time we came in or out, and they always did their best to help, with advice, calls to businesses, and their fancy free cell phones that helped us navigate and included free calls! A few things to know: Porto’s hills are steep, and the hotel is at nearly the very bottom. Be ready to climb and to walk. The rooms are comfortable, clean, simply furnished in a modern style, and typical in size for Europe. The included breakfast was excellent and stayed open late. All in all a delightful 3 nights. Congrats to ownership for their emphasis on customer service.…
On Christmas day, my daughter and I were in Porto having stayed at another accommodation which did not include breakfast. We turned up at The House Ribeira and asked if we could have breakfast and leave our suitcases with them for a while as we intended to go for a walk in the area before leaving the city. The staff's response couldn't have been kinder or more welcoming and they went out of their way to help us in any way they could. Amd we weren't even guests at the hotel! We were so well received that we wished we had known about this hotel and stayed there instead. We most certainly will when we visit Porto again.
Wonderful small boutique hotel near the water in beautiful Porto. Clean and comfortable rooms (small if you are used to US hotels). Very friendly and helpful staff-helped us book Christmas Eve dinner and other excursions. Near everything too. One great feature was a free smartphone that helped navigate the city and the language- never have seen that offered but loved it, especially with the cost of foreign cell service. Very good breakfast was included!
Clean and spacious room, although temp control somewhat iffy (had a room heater as well for somewhat chilly weather we had). No view to speak of from this 2nd floor room, hence the room rate seemed on the high side. Hotel staff efficient and friendly. Breakfast average. Location close to river.
Check in was super easy!! They even gave us each a glass of port wine. They were super helpful in finding a place for us to have dinner- calling multiple restaurants. The room was spacious and had good style. Would highly recommend staying here!
