The Exmo hotel is less than a year old, centrally located for walking around old town Porto, and only a 12 minute drive from the Campagne train station (the main station on Porto). The hotel is modern, and we loved our penthouse views of the river from our deck. I would say that the thing we most appreciated was how friendly and helpful the staff were. Daniele helped arrange a high quality private wine tour in Douro for us when we arrived. David emailed us ahead of our stay to make sure they could make our stay memorable. Finally, every day in the small restaurant area Teresa provided personal attention. We would come down in the morning and she always had a place setting out for us, remembered what we liked from the previous day, and generally provided attention that I have only experienced in a bed and breakfast previously. This is a great small hotel (4 floors) that has a very personal feel - including home made cakes from Teresa and personal attention from Daniele and David. The only downside was that the huge, new TV set did not work because there were no stations hooked up. The hotel gave us a very nice bottle of Douru red wine to make up for that, and quite honestly, everything else more than compensated for this one glitch.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Exmo hotel. It was a cute and trendy hotel in the heart of Porto. The location was perfect, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. At first I was worried because it is located near a busy intersection. But the blackout shutters cut out all of the light and noise for a restful night. The accommodations were recently updated and had a modern vibe. The breakfast was fantastic with fresh baked goods every morning and fresh eggs on order. The morning staff were delightful and it was sad to say goodbye at the end of our stay. We'll stay there again if our travels take us back to Porto.

The Great Bit: We visited end of Sept 2019 - and the hotel had only been open since May. We were attracted by it's location and heritage of the building. Calling itself a Boutique Hotel has positive and negative perceptions... The location is superb - almost first line from the river and opposite Sao Franciso church. Also very close to Portologia, which is a superb port wine tasting experience - and a host of restaurants on the riverside. Beds and pillows are very comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms are very tastefully decorated and we loved the wooden floors and heated mirror. We had a very small balcony which opened up with views across the square. But it's the staff that are Exmo's superpower! Everyone we had contact were so friendly and accommodating. At breakfast, Fatima and Theresa would literally (almost) bend over backwards to make sure everything was to your satisfaction. They would introduce themselves and ask your names - and then never forget you over the next few days. We arrived at check in after a long journey from Faro. I happened to remark it was my birthday and could they reserve a table at a restaurant. This was quickly done. When we returned - a small cake in a glass dome was waiting form me on the desk! Lovely touch. The Not So Great Bit: The rooms fall into the Boutique trap. First they were small - just enough room to walk around the sides of the admittedly large bed - and we were in a superior room. There is no wardrobe - just a metal hanging space. I'm ambivalent about this - but it always drives my wife crazy. Acceptable in a Travel Lodge - but not in a £200+ per night room. There is no drawer space or space for your cases. Luckily the beds are high and you can push them underneath. But on balance - this was not a big deal and you soon sorted your routine to make things work.

New hotel in the heart of Porto. Centrally located for most tourist activities with an attentive group of staff who will learn your name and treat you like you are the only guest in the place. Breakfast is substantial and includes maid to order items. Do not hesitate to stay here!
