We had a great stay. The rooms are comfortable and the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful - particularly the reception staff. The roof top restaurant and bar are spectacular with amazing views of the acropolis. Great food too.

Travelled here with my cousin after a trip to the Greek Islands. We needed to be pampered and that's exactly what we got. The rooms are incredibly clean. All the in room amenities are brand new and clearly the latest and greatest. We had a large amount of hanging space and space for two massive travelling duffel bags as well...

I stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel in February 2014. The location is ideal and the rooftop views of the Acropolis and surrounding area can't be beat. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food selection in the complimentary breakfast was diverse. The room rate was very reasonable. This may just be the best hotel in the whole...

My future daughter-in-law and I traveled to Greece July 20th. First Hotel, Athens Gate . So beautiful. Location, location, Modern Hotel, Clean and I mean clean, right between Acropolis and Zeus Temple. Loved the rooftop breakfast and illuminated evening dinner. Could not recommend a better hotel/ Greece Location. Very Happy.

We stayed at the Athens Gate in September 2013. The room was clean, modern, and very nice. We loved the balcony, and although it is located on a busy street, the windows blocked the traffic noise. We had a clear view of the Temple of Zeus, and the rooftop restaurant view is exquisite. My only complaint was the air conditioning....

I don't write many bad reviews as I usually check tripadvisor before I book a stay and end up satisfied. I gave it 2 stars because I really felt this is what is deserves. Stood here with my girlfriend in January. On the fifth floor for 4 nights. I have been to Athens multiple times as my girlfriend has family...

We stayed at Athens Gate Hotel based on the research done on TA and it was a great choice. We got a cab from the airport, which we had booked online (paid when we got there). It costs about 35-50 Euros one way, but you can go ahead without booking and hail one at the airport too. Once you get...

Stay for the view as it's near all the major monuments but otherwise It's an average hotel. We where checked in a smelly room and we made a complaint at the reception. They sent an engineer to our room only to be told that there was nothing wrong with the room. We went and spoke to the reception is and...

This was a clean hotel within walking distance to the Plaka and Acropolis. Staff was friendly. The best part was the rooftop bar/restaurant which overlooked the Acropolis and Tempe of Zeus. We also had a view from our room. Would stay here again.

We spent 4 nights here and enjoyed our stay throughout, the view from the rooftop garden are breath taking, with the Acropolis on one side and Zeus Temple on the other. Breakfast was a very good selection, and our room was very comfortable and was on the Acropolis side, so not so noisy but with ear plugs we slept fine....

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
