Lets start with the good- Great staff. Every interaction was positive and friendly. Very clean- from room to common spaces was spotless Gym- nice and good size Room a little dated but not terrible. Not great but would never write a review about it. Bad bed- never in my life could I imagine a bed this bad. I called and emailed twice before I came to ensure I would have a good bed, after reading reviews. This bed is worse than a college dorm mattress. There is no way that this is acceptable for the lowest level holiday inn on the side of a highway forget an intercontinental. Absolutely disgraceful that this is given to a guest. I did not sleep through the night once. There is no way any manager of this hotel chain would stay a night on this bed. TV- shocking how bad. Tv was DOS based and would love to show a picture of the system. There are no channel numbers. You need to go on a menu and scroll. It was unreal how bad. Bathtub- forget sitting in it. To shower I had to stand diagonally to fit. I have size 11 feet so not insane. If I stood with my feet 1 inch apart the sides of my feet were sloped up to make standing uncomfortable. If I stood perpendicular than my toes with up on the side. Just dont say you have a bathtub if you can’t even stand in it to shower. Location- i knew it was off main area. Not end of world. But the 15 minute walk to acropolis is on a major road. I understand that the hotel is scheduled to have a renovation I have no idea how IHG thinks it is acceptable to have a hotel under the intercontinental brand that is so much below standards. I NEVER would have stayed here nor considered it if I knew how bad it really was. When I see Intercontinental i assume a certain level. This bed and TV is below a Motel 6 level and I am not exaggerating. It is honestly staggering how bad it was. It truly ruined our trip and don’t think I can trust the brand innately anymore. I used to feel whenever I saw the intercontinental name on the side of a hotel that it was at least a certain level. I am so disappointed. As a platinum member I can’t believe I am writing or saying this. I used to only stay at starwood and need to think I have to re-assess my brand choices. …
Really clean, big rooms. We stayed in 2 huge inter-connecting rooms, which was perfect for our family of 4 adults and had a lovely big relaxing area to all relax and spend time together. Excellent house keeping staff and thank you to Gianina for tending to our rooms daily. Staff were so helpful when we accidentally locked ourselves out! Room service and restaurant food was delicious , although menu bit limited and not many veggie options but view of Acropolis from Premiere was absolutely amazing. Menu on website seems to suggest a wider range than was actually available at the restaurant eg website shows tasting menus and veggie menus so would recommend that is removed if no longer up to date. Hotel is about 20-25 minute walk to many of the main sights along a main road, one of the road crossings is a little difficult but there are lots of nearby cafes to grab drinks or snacks and the walk into Plaka and the sights is very easy. Hotel is really big, staff including bell boys, reception staff and room service and restaurant staff are so helpful and friendly and we loved it as a base for our first visit to Athens. Would very happily stay here again when I visit again in the future and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens.…
Was there for 4 nights. The location is superb, close to everything and in the "better" part of Athens, with close access to the local small places if you want to experience a traditional local dish (a must)
This is a typical Intercontinental in terms of look and feel. My experiences after 2 stays this year: - The streets close to the hotel are run down but do not feel dangerous or sketchy. - 15 min walk to the center or take the convenient tram to Syntagma. - Good food in Art Bistro in the lobby and decent service. Not cheap though. - Rooms are the compromise here. Not very bright nor attractive. Need updating. - As a recurring Platinum Ambassador guest (upgrade eligible) on a Luxury & Lifestyle rate (which includes an upgrade), the (non-)upgrade was silly: a view of the forecourt of the hotel. - Good gym. - Club offerings on a previous stay were OK but a bit cramped as it was in the same space as the top floor restaurant.
Stayed here as part of a pre cruise extension. Although not in city center only a 7€ taxi ride to Syntagma square. King suite very quiet with large bathroom, robes and slippers. Nice living area. Breakfast buffet very expansive. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Stayed here for a family city break over school half term. It’s a good solid choice for Athens but having stayed in other Intercontinental hotels this is probably over graded. Rooms are getting tired and bathrooms not great, especially the showers. More 4 stars than 5. Aircon in the rooms not very effective. Location is ok although quite a long walk to the centre …… 20 - 30 mins depending on which site you are heading to. Breakfast was also ok but not at 5 star levels I felt and service was pretty abrupt and a little slow. It is a good easy choice especially for a family but there are probably newer, more updated 4 and 5 hotels than this one in Athens.
Spent 4 nights at the hotel. Took the club deal - great! Everything a business man needs: 1. Good business lounge with all the relvant facilities 2. Big room at the 8th floor with some workibg space 3. Gym 4. Great breakfast 5. Service is also good 6. The best internet connection i ever had in a hotel Location is not prime locqtion athens but its nothing 5min/7 euro taxi cant solve. Well done Intercontitental
Visited Athens with friends. Some of us staying at the Intercontinental. Very friendly staff, large bedrooms and breakfast is excellent. Had a problem with my room, which was sorted quickly by the team. Area nearby with bars and restaurants. Hotel needs to be refurbished.
We stayed here as part of a Viking Cruise extension. Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. We even sampled several entrees for dinner and found them above expectations for a hotel restaurant. I would give it the highest rating if it were located within walking distance to the tourist attractions. That being said, it was only an $8E taxi trip.
This is not by any standard an IC hotel. There are better holiday Inn properties. I do not understand how IHG have kept this hotel branded as an IC. It is in desperate need of a refurb. The bath and showers are straight out of the 70s. It is actually difficult to shower because the bath narrows to such a degree it’s hard to stand. Yes it is one of those bath type shower systems. No walk in. The breakfast room is like a canteen. Not a 5 star hotel breakfast room. Dreadful, loud and low class. The only positive is that the beds are comfortable. To compound all this there was zero elite status recognition. I have diamond elite and ambassador with IHG and there was not even a mention of it or any advantages. I even had to ask for the complementary breakfast after being offered it for a charge. A dreadful stay. This is not by any means a luxury hotel. There are far better options so I suggest go there.…
