I stayed three nights. Booked a rooftop room, taking into account the reviews complaining about the noise from the streets. And I loved my room! OK, it had a tiny bathroom, but I felt that was part of its charm. I certainly was aware of noise drifting up from the street through the night. But I wouldn't say it disturbed...

Book this hotel if you are looking for the perfect location on a tight budget. Room was small and noisy, but the location was perfect. We checked out in the morning and had to go to Acropolis. You can leave your bags there after checking out and pick them up whenever. We were very happy with our choice since it...

Just wanted to show a close friend of mine the heart of Athens for one evening when we were in town. The Carolina Hotel in the center of the city offered a rooftop garden room with Acropolis view at a decent price - so that seemed perfect. After cdiscussing that by phone more than 3 weeks before i've sent immediately...

I stayed only one night and having to catch an early plane I didnàt want to spend a lot of money. The location is great and the rooms were clean. The problem is that I couldn't sleep all night, even with earplugs, due to the noise coming from the street: there are a lot of bars around and locals like...

I had some trepidation about staying here reading some of the negative reviews but I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, the place is in a great location for nightlife and is also a short distance from the main attractions.

We book one room with the hotel website. We asked for a double room but we got a twin room. The receptionist apologized and told us that there is no more free double rooms. On the confirmation email the room type is not written.

Dear Costumer, Thank you very much for giving time to comment us. In our website there is a double/twin room and you write down the preferred one. But since the type is like this it means that it depends on the availability if you are going to get the room that you chosed, and unfortunately when you did the booking...

I have a soft spot for the Carolina, so keep that in mind. My husband first stayed here the year it opened in 1963 and we always spend at least a few nights here while in Greece. Think of it more of a pension and you won't expect too too much. It's an older hotel, but the windows at least...

The hotel is in a key location, a walking distance to great restaurants, the Parlement, and many other places. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful with advises and booking other activities. The rooms are basic but confortable and clean with free wifi. I would certainly go back to this hotel and highly recommend it to all.

First off let's be clear - the Carolina is a budget hotel and should be judged accordingly. So my 4* here means it is a very good budget hotel! but of course it's not the same as a similar rating for a smart hotel costing 3 or 4 times as much. I say this as some of the more negative...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
