More than 30 years ago I stayed in a small central family run hotel in Athens and I wanted to have the same experience but with more creature comforts. Well I got it right! Sweet Home hotel has only 14 rooms in a historically listed house which is easy walking distance to the central attractions. Because of its historic listing...

We booked Sweet Home Hotel for two nights during our stay in Athens. The location of the hotel is perfect, within walking distance of the major sights, shopping, and restaurants. We arrived early and were welcomed by the front desk. The receptionist/manager helped us with our bags and told us that she would have them put in our room when...

This hotel is tucked away just off the street, but so close to every thing you will need in Athens Catch number 95 bus from the airport, stay on till the last stop. Then it's a short ten minute walk to this lovely hotel. We stayed in room 305. The rooms are small but have everything you need, TV, fridge,...

What a wonderful hotel right in the middle of the greatest sights in Athens! The room was lovely, although somewhat small, but it fit our needs perfectly. Perhaps the best part of the hotel was the wonderful staff, especially the reception, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and well taken care of. The reception booked all...

A lovely place to stay to see the sights in Athens, a lovely, vibrant city. Stayed here for 3 nights after 13 nights on the island of Sifnos, before our flight home. Compact room with side view of the Acropolis. Well appointed and comfortable with nice bathroom and toiletries. Nice touches with bathrobes and slippers. The reception staff were exceptionally...

Sweet Home hotel was a great stay, we booked this hotel last minute based on the reviews and are expectations were exceeded. The staff was very engaging and assisted us with all of our questions and needs, it really felt like home. We only had one night in Athens and wanted to be near the acropolis for which the Sweet Home hotel is well located. The hotel is down a side street and up some stairs to the reception with a lift to the room floors. Our room was compact but charming with a balcony over the street. The shower worked well...

Such an appropriate name "Sweet Home"...our room was small, clean and cosy...just like home.Great location...walking distance to sights, restaurants, Brettos Bar and shopping. Easy and affordable access from the airport by the Xpress bus X95. Breakfast was well presented, awesome selection, most delightful and plentiful. What a delightful way to start our holiday.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
