We returned to Athens after 20 years to visit the ancient sites again. The AVA hotel at the edge of the Plaka near Hadrian's gate was the ideal headquarters for our 4 day stay. The new Acropolis Museum and a metro stop were close by and all archeological sites were within walking distance. We liked having a suite with a...

No wonder this is no 1 on trip advisor! The staff could not be more welcoming or helpful, the rooms are fantastic (and large by Athens standards) and the location is top-notch. We got a free bottle of bubbly in our room and even had a little balcony.

I've been through Athens many times over the years, and have not found a hotel until AVA that I would put in my address book to stay at again. Rooms were spacious. Service was attentive. Location was very central. We had rooms facing the back which were quiet and allowed for peaceful sleeping. Breakfast was quite good with options including...

We have stayed at other hotels ranked Number 1 on TripAdvisor and have been disappointed but not this one. It's a short walk from the Acropolis Metro stop to the hotel. Most tourist attractions in the area have a relatively flat or little slope walk from this hotel compared to other areas like by the Roman Agora. We had an...

AVA Hotel offered a great experience. We chose the hotel through TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. The staff is extremely helpful and made every effort to ensure our stay was everything a traveler could desire. The location is ideal for seeing Athens--within easy walking distance of the Acropolis, Parthenon, Museums, Socrates' Prison, great restaurants and many other sites. The...

This hotel is awesome. It's in such a good location to everything without feeling too mainstream. Our room was spacious and really clean with a pretty big kitchen. Not that we used that as the food was so good everywhere and so cheap! The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful with any questions we had.

We stayed at AVA hotel on the front end and back end of a trip to Greece recently; read the trip advisor reviews and made reservations over the internet. The hotel staff responded promptly to all queries and were very helpful. Since we were traveling with our 2 college-age children we reserved the family suite and we were delighted with...

Just a little bit of heaven here in Athens. I've been in the travel industry for 38 years. I've never been compelled to to rate a hotel SO highly. From the moment we arrived to check-in to the check-out, we have been treated royally. Nothing, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They have been invaluable in helping us...

We stayed in the AVA hotel in late March on a family trip. The hotel staff was very good. The location is excellent. Overall, very, good. Would highly recommend. The only complaint is on their website they show a picture of their rooftop, implying that there is a restaurant there. There is not! I wish they would change that.

We thank you very much for your kind words. We're happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay and would highly recommend us! Regarding your reference to the picture on our website, we wish to clarify that the picture reflects the view from the veranda of our Exclusive Suites and not the view from the roof top. My sister and I spent a week in this lovely, modern, quiet, first class boutique hotel on the edge of Plaka, the oldest area in Athens. With Hadrian's Arch 100m away, the Acropolic Museum, a 10 minute stroll away, and Stygmata Square, a mere 20 minute walk, you cannot beat this beautiful 'home away from home' for location. Public transport...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
