Hotel very nice. First of all, proud to be the location. Very close from here to the Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis. There I was: Free wireless internet access, safe, LCD TV, telephone and refrigerator. In the room there was a very comfortable bathroom is fully equipped with facilities such as showers with handheld showerheads. Available in the bathroom was...

Hotel Ilion is at walking distance from the Metro, but you can also walk to most major sites. A nice way to explore the city. The rooms are spatious and very clean, they have an airco and a refrigaraor. Staff is helpfull (they helped me get to the airport, when there was as total public transport and taxi strike!). I...

The hotel is very centrally located at the Omonoia square with connections to the metro system i.e. easy access to the airport). It is also within 10 minutes walking from Syntagma and Monastiraki. The hotel is rather worn down and old, but is an good budget alternative. Still, slept well in a comfortable bed. The Omonoia area is slightly seedy...

We made sure that the room was LOCKED before we left the room and the only person with the key were hotel staff. DON"T STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE SAFE. We booked...

We stayed two nights at Ilion hotel and it met our expectations. Room was clean and of an adequate size with good airconditionning and great free wi-fi ( which is always essential for us). The hotel is located right in the city center, we walked to all the sites we wanted to see. Acropolis was an easy walk of 15...

The Hotel was okay for what you paid. The Staff is friendly and helpful. The air and internet are great. However do not walk to any tourist areas. It was not enjoyable. After the first attempt we just took cabs each day. The Hotel is located just on the edge of a run down part of town.

I stayed in this hotel and the hotel didnt look at all as impressive as the pictures. They are just good pictures and thats what tempted me to book there but the service was good..breakfast was the same each day and the rooms compared quite well to youth hostels than to hotels. The location was very unsettling for me as...

We did not arrive to Athens airport until a little after midnight. The subway was closed and the cabs were on strike. We took the bus to the hotel (had to walk about a mile around 1 am in the morning but we felt very safe-some newsstands were open and there were a few people out and about). We stayed...

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.

“Don't stay in Omonia. Buy a book about Greece and familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods before booking. Monstraki is a nice area. We changed hotels to Airotel Alexandros in a different neighborhood which was great. This hotel was farther from the center of athens near the US embassy. It requires a metro ride into other areas but it was great.”
