Althougth the receptionist was very polite and was always smiling, we felt as if we had been conned as the second we entered the room, we discovered large mirrors over the beds, material covering the walls so that they appear to be sound proof (the rooms were not sound proof and we could hear disgusting noises from other rooms). In...

Read carefully reviews to not be suprised! Hotel Marie with its equipment is cheap hotel for travelers, and mainly "hour hotel" for lovers. Rooms are equipped with large mirrors, red spot lights and plush chandelier. Nevertheless hotel is clean, in walking distance (30 mins from Acropolis, 20 from Syntagma square, nearest metro station is Panepistimio) from centre, breakfast was decent,...

I booked this hostel using booking.com service but unfortunatly I had to cancel it few hours before my arrival so that I had to pay for the first night. I called booking.com customer service to claim for a refund but they didn't want. So I sent a message to the hotel Marie who kindly accept to cancel my booking without...

Very friendly staff that speak great English! The rooms are very unique to say the least.. But that's what makes it so unique and different to stay in. The price is amazing for the location as we were able to walk to so many attractions! Only negative is that the water in the shower was cold.

I came with my friend for two nights at the beginning of our Greek travels. We booked this hotel because it seemed very funky and different. When we got there it became very clear what the hotel was for. Sound proof walls, red lighting, a giant mirror at the end of the bed and only one adult channel on the...

low cost and walking distance to Omonia square, good pubs around. The only thing is the area that is not so sound for tourists. Rooms are strangely designed, funny sounds at all times... Well as said, it is secure to sleep in there.

Staying in Exarchia

Neighbourhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
