The primary reason to stay at Hotel Phaedra is its location. It's just a few minutes from the Acropolis and is in a good central location. It is clean and not too expensive for such a well-situated hotel. The service is friendly (though sometimes the manager on duty didn't speak English well enough for me to communicate easily). The main...

We stayed 3 nights in this friendly basic family run hotel. We chose a room with private bathroom at a slightly higher but still very reasonable rate for this excellent location. The hotel is ideally located for exploring Athens. Our long narrow balcony opened onto a view of the Acropolis on one side and a lovely quiet square with church...

Stayed for one night and it was okay. Pros: Situated right in the center. Walkable distance to Acropolis, Syntagma, Monasteraki and Plaka. There are cafes, restaurants and shops everywhere though a bit expensive because it's a tourist spot. Cons: Very basic and room is small. It was hard to move around with luggage. Our toilet is outside the room. The...

We had 4 nights here. 3 of us (2 adults and a teenager) stayed in a triple room with an ensuite bathroom. Small and basic but very clean, safe and comfortable with a little balcony overlooking on old square and church. The location of this hotel in Plaka must be unbeatable. We walked non stop for 4 days. The 24hr...

Stayed here a the Phaedra Hotel in Plaka, approximately a year ago in Nov. The amazing location and views were the attraction for our booking decision. The hotel has an exceptional panaromic view of the Acropolis and Athens city from the roof terrace. The affordable, basic rooms are comfortable, clean and safe, at a fantastic price. Friendly, reserved, respectful staff,...

Nice and friendly hotel. Spacious and clean rooms. Breakfast just basic, just bread, jam and coffee. Excellent location. Everything you can reach from walking distance. Nice view from the roof (see photo).

Rooms are very basic but clean. Value for money given the fantastic location. We had the room with the external private bathroom. The view of the Acropolis from our balcony made this place worthwhile. Great place if you are traveling on a budget. They have a 24 hr desk service.

The location is all you're really getting with this hotel, but the location is perfect. Easy walking distance to the sites, bar, restaurants and train station. Basic rooms, but many come with balconies with nice views and are all air conditioned which is so necessary but I've found hotels in Athens without! I'd definitely return purely for the location. The...

I gave this hotel average rating due to the location. The location couldn't be beat. It was walking distance for every most main attraction in Athens (Acropolis, Museum, Plaka, etc.) and a short walk from the exit of subway station (we came directly from the airport). We only stayed 1 night in Athens (if you are staying longer, I would...

The location is fabulous close to everything. Acropolis , museum , national gardens, and of course Plaka. We book a room that had a balcony with view to acropolis and the famous Daphines. We really enjoyed the location for 3 night stay and rooms are small but this reflects prices.Remember you also get Plaka and unforgettable views. Sopping is at...

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
