Excellent hotel to stay for a night or two. It’s just next to train station where train to Thessaloniki departs from. Staff is very friendly and will help you with everything. Room is pretty spacious and I was lucky enough to get a room with a tremendous terrace that had an amazing view on the little park in front of the train station, balconies of nearby buildings and mountains far far away. The only disadvantage can be probably bathroom which is pretty small and when taking a shower it’s guaranteed that most of the water will end up on the floor, but it’s a minor problem that will probably not matter for a short term stays.

Only two good thing I can say: Hot water in shower. Opposite the metro station. Was going to stay four nights, checked out after two nights. So disappointing. No restaurant. No room service nothing. Poor. The shower door didn't close!! Definitely not a 3 star in my opinion.

Excellent experience: balcony, room cleaned regularly, reception staff polite (Stefan is really friendly and gives good advice about Athens). This is a great hotel for mid- budget in Athens, right opposite Larissa train station which gets you to syntagma & acropolis in 15 mins. Also the bathrooms are fine - clean & hot showers. Saw people moaning about them in reviews unnecessarily- so what they look a bit retro, for the price this place is brilliant! Room is lovely and air con works a treat. Will definitely stay here again 👍

STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE NIGHTMARISH HOTEL! In all my years of travelling and staying in numerous hotels, this Socrates Hotel is by far the Worst of its kind! The staffs are the most disgraceful, totally nonchalant and laziest people in the hospitality business! I called numerous times to inform the staffs about the boisterous neighbours and they just wave it off that probably it’s from the next building?!? How ludicrous and preposterous can they be?!? When I insisted he check, he got angry with me instead and said he is not free and have guests to check in. Yes, indeed. They checked in Boisterous Tenants and allow them to party all day and all night! Boozing away, smells of weed permeates the entire corridors of the hotel and their constant banging and screeching away with their doors wide open, is enough to stab you on your ears and drive you into stress mode! The staffs refused to tell them to quieten down or close their doors. No, absolutely nothing. It went on the entire day and night! Thumping, banging, screeching away and stench of smoked weeds encompass your entire world in this Godforsaken Hotel! I implore everyone to keep away like it’s plague. It’s imperative you heed my advice or suffer the same fate as me. Room 609.

We booked this hotel for its position and the price. Socrates Hotel is located a few minutes walking distance from the train and metro station and it's very value for money. Room is not big but is clean. Walking near the hotel is not advised in the night...

Beds are OK. Bathroom stinks. Broken and dirty. They also rent the rooms by the hour to illicit Greek couples between regular guests. The receptionist is unfriendly - never cracked a smile, and will only accept cash payment. The night guy is totally unfriendly, and indifferent but if you need to save a little money and not be too far from everything, it's OK. Larissa station where the hotel is located is one of the worst areas of Athens. Just be very careful with your passports, and wallets.

This hotel doesn't accept reservations with promotions on booking.com or maybe other sites too .I have reserved a double room for 2 adults and a child 3 months before my trip to lock down the price and also to guarantee the availability.Once they received the booking they have canceled it and sent me cancellation reason invalid credit card i made another booking with another credit card , they've confirmed the reservation through booking.com and everything was okay.A week before my trip i requested a baby cot and early check in they've responded that i should update the credit card or they will cancel the reservation for the second time so i've updated it with another credit card then they've canceled the reservation for Invalid credit card !! P.S I've used 3 different cards for reserving this room those 3 cards were perfectly working on booking.com I've never had such an issue with one of them . I contacted booking they have replied that they do not know, the system is incredibly vague as to why those cards where invalid (they give me 25 Euros as a compensation of what happened) I've also tried to contact the property they have hanged up the phone after saying that if i want to reserve a room with them it must be though mail in a very tough and rude manner.

Personally, this place ticked all the boxes. It was close to Athens main railway station & all Metro lines. It was quiet in the mild, balmy, evening. Breakfast included was more than satisfactory for the day ahead. Staff were friendly, courteous & v helpful; football on big screen TV; baggage storage facility available; rooms were ideal, iron available. Great value price; I travelled Europe with Interrail and this was by far the best hotel I used. Fellow travellers, in Athens choose Socrates. Bon Voyage

I had never expected to be the way it was I thought to myself is going to be ok. Till the morning not having water in the whole hotel, that I couldn't take a shower or wash my face or mouth it was not good. Then pass almost 9 pm when I got back to the socrates hotel in athens they say why are you happy? you're here. I had to say is not very polite to be sarcastic after a day of inconvenience. Went to sleep next morning going to eat breakfast was worst no coffee available due to the not replacing the timer on the machine that was mess up the day before for no water.conclusion make you own adventure but if I had the money I won't stay in this place again not recommended to anyone.
