On arrival at Manons Les Suites we walked into reception to what felt like chaos. The reception desk was right beside the front door, in a very cramped space, which meant anytime anyone entered or exited, everyone had to part ways. It was impossible to figure out who was waiting, who was hanging out, or where you were in the queue, or even if there was one. There were so many people in the small reception area that social distancing was an impossibility. The hotel says that it suggests guests stagger check-in but there was no info shared with us from the hotel ahead of arrival to suggest this was the case, or indeed when a good time for check-in would be (probably explaining why it was so chaotic at 3pm). There was one person behind reception and he was so focused on whatever he was doing that there was no indication from him to understand that he had seen you, or knew what mess was developing ahead of him. He never looked up and was so engrossed in what he was doing on his oversized Mac, that he could just as easily have been in an intense round of Candy Crush as any help towards checking people in for all the help he was. Eventually someone else arrived on the scene and after about 15-20 minutes we made it to the front desk. It was reassuring to see Covid passports being checked (something common across Copenhagen), but there were still further issues as they disputed that we could have already paid for our room as ‘they don’t take pre-payment’. After bank statements were shown (!) to indicate that we had indeed pre-paid they begrudgingly believed us. I am not sure why they didn’t have this information to hand already. Nearly half an hour after arrival we were on our way to our room. Candy Crush man had still not looked up from his game the entire time. The hotel is beautiful, as are the rooms, but at this time of year the heating in your room could be ‘roasting’ or ‘surface of the sun’. No amount of fiddling with the controls on the radiators could reduce the heat output, so opening a window onto a busy and noisy road was the only way to reduce the heat to a bearable level. Not so environmentally friendly for an ‘eco hotel’. On Saturday morning we realised we’d over-estimated our ability to get up in time for our reserved time for breakfast, so we tried using the house phone in our room to call reception and rebook it. It didn’t work, or if it did, reception weren’t answering. It was difficult to tell whether the horrific ring noise after dialling ‘9’ was ‘normal’ and reception just weren’t picking up, or whether it was broken. Perhaps the receptionist was going for a high score on Candy Crush?! I ended up making an international call from my mobile to call the hotel and change the time of our reservation. Later into morning, as we were getting ready to go out for the day, housekeeping, adorned with headphones, let themselves into the room as one of us was still in the shower while the other, soaking wet and wrapped in a towel, suggested she came back later. By Sunday we’d had some long days and evenings walking around town. We’d been out for breakfast, having left our room at 9am and returning at 2pm wanted to just flop in our room for a couple of hours. However, when we got back our room had not been made up. Housekeeping knocked on the door at about 2.30pm and we agreed that if they came back in an hour we’d have made ourselves scarce again. We thought it would be an ideal opportunity to go to the pool and enjoy a drink for an hour or so, so off we went. After enjoying a dip in the pool that seemed straight off the set of Avatar (totally stunning and well heated), we went to order a drink at the bar. Except there were no bar staff. A kind notice suggested that, despite ‘opening at 3pm’ (it was now 4pm), we should call an international phone number to get service (no internal phone provided). Soaking wet from a dip in the pool, I trudged up four flights of stairs to the rooftop bar to be greeted by a scene, not quite as chaotic as check-in, but not far off it. One man behind the bar was engrossed in making drinks but there was no one waiting on the tables or greeting people as they arrived. It was unclear what those that were waiting should be doing, and there were others already there that were trying to order more drinks, or pay bills, ahead of those of us that were arriving (there were other people from poolside also ahead of me in the entrance to the bar who had clearly had the same hope of quenching their thirst). I muddled my way to the bar to ask if the barman was on his own or if there were other people on hand to help, and / or if anyone was likely to open the pool bar, only for him to tell me that the pool bar was ‘closed’ and he was on his own (and clearly struggling), in the bar. I left, drinkless, given that I was still soaking and with no clear idea of how long I might need to wait. I then walked down six flights of stairs to reception to explain the issue. They were kind enough to offer to bring drinks to our room, so off we went back to our room. Now 4.30pm, the room was still not made up. No clean towels to wash with after being in the pool, and unmade beds were all that we had to collapse on. Later into the evening, having enjoyed dinner, we were just packing our stuff in preparation for our very early departure the following morning, when housekeeping knocked on the door. It was 9.15pm as they asked if we wanted clean towels or our bed made up. No thanks - we’re in pyjamas and just about to pass out in bed before a 4am wake-up. It’s important to note that the staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive when you could get hold of them (except Candy Crush playing man on reception). The restaurant was great - food, drinks and service all excellent. The hotel is beautiful and the facilities clearly warrant a five star status, even if there’s no way to cool your room. But there clearly weren’t enough staff there during our visit to support a five-star experience. And no communication given that would have elicited empathy and understanding had they said they were struggling with staff numbers. After a multitude of cancellations and rebookings due to Covid, we were really looking forward to staying here. With so many other options in Copenhagen would we come back here? I’m not sure. It felt like there was a little too much focus on style over substance.

Highly recommend to anyone visiting Copenhagen! Reasonably priced for a 5-star hotel. The pool was definitely the highlight! Beautiful sauna/steam room on the roof was amazing in the November cold. Breakfast was a buffet with various meats, breads, jams, etc. All around beautiful, indescribable experience!

We have a list of complaints. The hotel is very Instagramamble but unfortunately its only surface. It has five stars which is very hard to believe. We arrived to our early check in at 13. We arrived a bit early and waited next to the check in desk. They didn't greet us even though there were no other clients and two receptionists... They told us the room wouldn't be ready until after 30 minutes. I has emailed twice about the early check in and it had been confirmed. I told them this and then suddenly the room was available within five minutes. In the room it was extremely cold, we put on the heaters but they sounded so much we couldn't sleep. The breakfast was in many ways a bit disappointment. First of all it was in a tiny room with way too many people. Very overcrowded. We had booked and we were put at a high bar table in the middle of the busy buffé. We asked if we could sit at another, low breakfast table instead of the bar table. We were told "no one had an issue with that table before". Both of us have a background in hospilatity and have been guests in other hotels of even four and three star hotels and always received a better costumer facing attitude. We were shocked of this approach. When the strawberry jam ran out we were told they ran out. After a couple of minutes at the bar table we spotted a normal low table and asked if we could sit there. They said yes of course, but in a high level of service they should know better about the tables than us as costumers... In the night they had an event in the pool area. We had been noticed about that (about 2 weeks notice) but no where had we been informed about that the event meant loud music until 23. We absolutely do not recommend this hotel to anyone. Google a photo from the pool area and you have got all a stay here can get you 😂.

Dear Josefin B. Thank you for your taking time to formulate a review. I apologize for the confusing upon your arrival, it is likely that our receptionist allocated you to a better vacant suite, it takes a few minutes and we provide this complimentary compensation in case your booked suite is not ready in time. Regarding the breakfast, we have approximately 40 tables and almost 90 rooms, which creates a complication if our guests show up at the same time. We recommend eating in the early or late opening hours of breakfast, to avoid a crowded experience and a more calming breakfast atmosphere. - We recently added another opening hour of breakfast, to make amends for this. The recent event you experienced was for a charity that we are proud to have the opportunity to host. We truly apologize if this was an inconvenience during your stay.. I apologize that we were not able to fulfill your expectations, I appreciate you having brought our attention towards the points that you thought can be improved, please note that this have been taken into consideration. We hope that you will return for another visit in the near future and allow us the opportunity to offer you our services once more and change your perception about us. Best regards, Frederick Secq - Manager

Know what you are getting. They call it a 5 star hotel but Manon is a gorgeous romantic boutique hotel not a full service corporate luxury hotel. You will get a big stylish, mostly well designed room (Europeans still don't know how to build a shower that doesn't get everything within 2 meters totally soaked) oriented around a gardens of Babylon style courtyard. There's a small but beautiful pool, a nice little sauna on the roof, and a fitness center that doubles as a boxing training facility and is beyond what you find at any other smaller hotel. It's the kind of place where hipsters will feel at home, but dorks won't be totally self conscious. There's always at least one couple low key making out in the pool but it's not an adult only hotel and the shallow pool is good if you got a 9 year old or someone who can't really swim. It's decidedly low maintenance, and understaffed. You generally handle your stuff and get clean towels and toiletries as needed from housekeeping. There's a lot of fuss about all its organic products and eco-friendly focus, but truth is once you've flown into Copenhagen it doesn't matter how much you brush your teeth with a bamboo toothbrush and organic toothpaste tablets, you are just trimming toenails on your carbon footprint. It is not a hotel for people who go to bed before 11 p.m. or need complete silence to sleep. There's a restaurant bar on the 6th floor and the 2nd floor pool is bumpin europop noon to 10 (12:00-22:00). Choose your room wisely. If you have kids or want to center your stay around the pool be a good sport and stay on the 2nd floor. If you want quiet(ish) try for the 4th floor or the side away from the restaurant. Beds were more comfortable here than the other high end larger hotel we stayed at in Copenhagen. I'd worry about some deterioration over time as I did see the beginnings of wear and tear and not much of any facility/maintenance staff. If management is reading this, you got a beautiful place, now staff it fully and look at how you can improve-like a little basic cutlery and a plate for when your guests get take away.

Thank you so much for your review. It means a lot to us to know how our guests have experienced their stay with us, so we can do better in the future. If you land in Copenhagen again, I would recommend you to try our new beautiful Hotel, Guldsmeden Bryggen. I would argue that they can fulfill many of the points you write about in your review.
