OK, this is not your usual business or even a tourist hotel. First of all, the place is shady. I mean it is as if the lighting is fixed to create shadows, behind chairs, in the corners, etc. If you like it bright, this is not the place. Secondly, the hotel has the smell of old buildings. It is not...

Great location in Gamla Stan. Charming hotel filled with many antiques. Breakfast was very good as well. Rooms are small but that is not uncommon in Europe. Very clean. Staff was helpful with the usual in dinner suggestions, etc. We had a medical emergency while there and I found the staff extremely helpful and empathetic. Would definitely recommend.

This is a quaint, European hotel meaning it's NOT the usual cookie-cutter Hyatt-style hotel, which is a positive in my book! Thick walls (so you don't hear your neighbor breathing), smallish, but well-appointed rooms (with heated bathroom floors!!), good breakfasts, efficient and friendly service. Two things to consider before booking: the first is that it's situated very near a church...

The owners of the Lady Hamilton are collectors of all sorts of interesting old stuff: ship models, stoves, rocking chairs, photos etc and have filled their hotel with beautiful things. All hallways and rooms are decorated individually. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is in the heart of Gamla Stan, the central...

We were so impressed with the Lady Hamilton hotel. Lovely staff and good breakfast. Really like the comfortable double room with excellent bed and facilities. Will return and might try one of the other hotels in the 'chain' ie The Victory or Lord Nelson.

This hotel has the perfect location in the heart of the old city. The staff is first rate, very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is quite good. Room is large enough, wide beds, cozy and nice. I don't think you could do any better for charming oldish hotel located perfectly.

This hotel has all the charm of a bed and breakfast. Cozy rooms, friendly/helpful staff and excellent locations. The location is in the center of Gamla Stan so there is some street noise. My single room was small but very functional with a very comfy bed.

The Lady Hamilton is in a great location in the heart of the Old Town of Stockholm, but a 15-minute walk from the Central Train Station. The decor combines modern efficiency and comfort with antique charm. My single room was small but well thought out; it had everything I needed. Although my trip timing was off -- I was in...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
