This is a quirky place to stay - they've restored it to keep the 'prison feel' and it works. Close to Stockholm centre with free car parking which we wanted. The accommodation is simple - we stayed in hotel part with sheets and towels provided. Excellent breakfast included. Staff really helpful, especially when we needed assistance to start the car.... I am sure this has been said before but this was the first time I had spent a night in a prison cell! The former prison has been converted well into a hotel but you have to recognise that it was a prison. Some features like the windows are not exactly at eye level and you have to stand on... More

I was in Stockholm for a conference and the organizers recommended this hotel, perhaps because it had a variety of accommodations at different price points. If I were looking for a hostel, I suppose this would have been okay. But for someone paying for more, this place was dreadful. Yes, the gimmick that this is a former women's prison is... More

This hotel still feels like an old prison...but the newer details can be spotted here and there. I wouldn't say that this decreases the prison feel. Take the rooms/cells, as an example. They were cells 150 years ago, and are now modernized with small flat screen TVs, painted/decorated walls and fold down/up bunk beds. It feels like you have entered... More

Fairly sized family room with 4 beds (bunk beds for the children). The breakfast menu was fantastic with all kinds of Swedish breakfast choices. Great selection of gluten and dairy free products. Free newspapers available (in Swedish). The beach is right in front of the hotel. The island of Långholmen is very nice for walks. You do not feel that... More

Friendly , helpful staff, clean, great location. Fantastic value. Located on an island with its own beach, lots of boats close by, canoe hire round the corner. Quiet yet close to metro. Prison theme fun.

I stayed at Langholmen during a business trip last May. Actually is an old prison converted into a modern hotel in the heart of Stockholm. The surrounding area is marvelous and the hotel offers all essential for a pleasant short stay. The breakfast is full including a great variety of alternative options, the rooms are very clean although too small... More

By coincidence I got to stay one night at the hotel and I was very pleasantly surprised. There are quite a few things I really enjoyed: - the hotel is beautifully situated with a small beach and free parking. - there's a nice indoor/outdoor bar/restaurant - pricing is quite good considering the location and standard But most of all I... This wonderful hotel is on one of the many islands of Stockholm. This island is more park than commercial or residential so you really feel like on a holiday. No noise, traffic here! Close to a subway station, I came on foot. You cross a small bridge, lots of boats on this canal. A picnic area and then you see... More

Great hotel for a fantastic price - some 4*+ hotels wouldn't match the standard provided by this hotel. We stayed for Eurovision, we arrived early for check-in - and they let us visit our rooms early. The rooms were a nice size (we had hand luggage / if your here for longer with big suitcases, you maybe wise booking a... More

Staying in Hornstull & Langholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Hornstull & Langholmen
If you love having a drink by the sea right on the beach (and who doesn’t?) Hornstull & Långholmen should be on top of your list. The area was recently redeveloped and now not only offers artsy bars and edgy restaurants but also a post-modern shopping mall complex for urban retail therapy. Hornstull belongs to the more established and sophisticated neighborhoods in Stockholm and is the typical place where you’ll find Swedish dads meeting for a latte during their paternal leave, or where local office workers meet up at the art cinema for a drink or a movie after work. The beaches in Hornstull and Långholmen are popular destinations for barbeques and sunbathing during the summer. Bring sunscreen.
