The room was very small and basic and the bathroom had a smell that was really awful. We asked to be moved and they said that all the rooms were the same and the bathrooms would all smell as the wind makes the drains smell?!...More

It's not a luxury hotel like a five stars hotel, but it's highly recomendable if you realize all pros and cons..price, location, bus station, receptive hotel staff, etc. You can count on the hotel staff even to buy the bus tickets.

My wife and I stayed here for eight days at NHRR, the former Hotel Hafnarfordur. Due to the Icelandic January, we decided to avoid renting a car, and the hotel's location on the "Straeto" municipal bus #1 line was compelling. Additionally, the Airport "Flybus" delivered...More

Rooms were clean and quite big and even offered kitchen utilities. Hotel offers good value. Location is good if you have a rental car for example. Breakfast is ok for the price of the hotel. Not great but at least you get skyr.

A group of five of us will be staying at Nordurey Hotel, Reykjavik Road ( I've noted that there are two Nordurey Hotels, one in Hafnarfjordur and one the other side of Reykjavik!) for 6 nights this February. We have pre- booked an excursion to the Blue Lagoon but nothing else yet!!! We are torn whether to book lots of organised excursions, we feel that you can learn a lot from a good guided tour, or whether to hire a car, risk driving in bad conditions, and attempt to find the best sights on our own. We appreciate that we are based on the outskirts of a town, excursions work out very expensive so if we choose to do a bit of both do you know if it will it be possible to book car hire locally? Or is there much to see within walking distance of the hotel? We intend to get the bus into Reykjavik itself. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Janet, I had wondered about car hire before we went in January, after seeing the weather & road conditions when we arrived I was glad to have booked excursions, the coach drivers are just so more adapted than us to the local... More

We brought our own. Might be best to email the hotel directly to check if they can lend you one while you are staying with them.
