Without a doubt, the best hostel I have ever stayed in. Location is great, clean, good atmosphere, great breakfast and well equipped kitchen. You must try the biscuits. The only down side is that the staff should improve by being more friendly. A smile could change a lot.

My partner and I stayed at Kex Hostel last week during our trip to Iceland and we just loved it. The place is very trendy and we loved the decor in an old cookie factory. The terrace at the back is very nice when the sun is out. We had a private room with shared bathroom and it was relatively...

Kex seemed to be a cross between a trendy bar and a set of university dorms with an almost steampunk feel. The room was very basic, but clean, with shared bathroom facilities. The bathrooms were always clean and well maintained. The food in the restaurant was good and generally well priced. On the saturday night the bar turned into a...

Loved my stay at KEX. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. Room and facilities were extremely clean, mattress on the bed very comfortable although the pillows were terrible! Could do with power outlets by every bed, not just some of the beds. The food is AMAZING, especially breakfast! The whole place has a really cool feel to...

I'm not a hostel kind of a traveller but I stayed her twice once at the beginning of our 7 day road trip and towards the end. I preferred staying in the 16 bed dorm over the 10, as the room was bigger and had a better design. Rooms and bathrooms were well maintained. Loved dining and drinking at the...

After spending a week in Iceland I needed a quick cheap place to just sleep. Last minute booking based on a recommendation from my guide after the other hostel I booked had a pipe burst. Cute, hip place. Very friendly staff. Felt safe with card access to floor and rooms. Wasn't there long enough to offer much more.

The hostel is great: beds, bathrooms, kitchen BUT the bar upstair is amazing: great view and great bands every night. The staff is super friendly and you book a tour (any tour! any company!) or a car to the airport, the pick you right at the door!

This was a nice hostel. Central location in Reykjavik and overlooking the ocean. Very cool bar with lots of locals and great music nights. The downsides of this place is the dorm rooms are very small. That and although it's essentially built around a bar/lounge you kinda feel like you're just in a rooming house attached to that bar/lounge. Don't...

I stayed at Kex for 3 nights in February. My first impression was the breath-taking view of the mountains and water from the common area. The location is also extremely convenient. I was able to be picked up and dropped off right at the hostel for my tours. The decorations are cozy and welcoming. There are lots of spaces to...

Great hostel in Great location near the middle of town. Recommend that you bring own food and cook in the kitchen as like anything in Iceland it is rather expensive. The were very helpful in assisting booking activities etc.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
