Our first night in Iceland and it was fantastic. When we stepped into corridor it looked like communist brutal concrete building, Bauhaus almost, however when we reached reception table I had a Wow moment!! Incredible little place with old industrial & art Deco mix lounge, bar, restaurant and performance scene upfront. Very bohemian, chilled, lovely lovely place. And they had...

Really cool, quirky hostel with lovely staff and a great nightlife. Unfortunately we were only here for a few hours to get some sleep before our very early flight. Loved the bowl of free earplugs at the reception desk - great touch for those who are sharing a dorm room - not that these were needed as we found everyone...

I was recommended Kex from a friend and after eventually finding it we were very pleased. Really cozy and funky surroundings, refill coffee and bread to help yourself. The food was beautiful and welcomed after walking in the snow to find Kex. I would recommend to anyone visiting Reykjavik, just make sure you keep a keen eye out as the...

Not only is KEX a super rad hostel in an old cookie factory, but it's in an almost perfect location, serves great food, and welcomes in locals to eat and drink. Although it's a bit on the pricey side, it's definitely worth it. The 16-person dorm was a roomy as a 16-person dorm can be. Not once did I feel...

Slept like an angel at Kex hostel! The beds (even the bunk beds) are amazing and comfortable. The kitchen on the third floor is spacious and well equipped. The vibe and the looks of the place are great with all the little knick-knacks making it a fun place to stay at. The bar is lively, I especially recommend the dates&bacon...

Three friends and I spent two nights at Kex and overall have a very positive experience. We arrived in time for breakfast after an overnight flight and enjoyed one of the best meals we had in Iceland! The dorms were in typical hostel fashion- busy and a little noisy at night- but a decent place to rest. The hostel is...

When going to a hostel I'm not expecting 5 star service, but yet I was appalled by my experience at Kex, and all the more disappointed that so many good reviews were posted here on trip advisor. For the equivalent of 130 euros, we got : a small room with separate beds (although we had asked for a double), disgusting...

The hostel was lively, with live music in the restaurant downstairs most of the nights we were there. It's position was perfect! An amazing view over the sea and 1 street down from the main Street. I stayed in a 16 room dorm which was spacious and had very comfortable beds. They charge a small fee to hire a duvet...

I don't know where other people have stayed who think this hostel is amazing but I'm glad I didn't stay there if they think this is the best. $10 extra for linen, sullen, unenthusiastic and sometimes rude staff, cold/low pressure showers, super thin pillows, cold rooms... The bar was ok but expensive. Kitchens were ok but the 4th floor one...

KEX is great! I stayed in a 16-bed dorm for 6 nights and it was a really good experience! However the shower in the private male/female bathroom is a pain to use. The water splatters everywhere in different direction. Also for the 16-bed dorm... for some reason the power outlet (on the top bunk bed) doesn't work at night after...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
