The one problem seems not to be mentioned by the top reviews: it's a solid 10-15 min walk just to get to the Rathaus, which is the very edge of the historic city center. The walk to the Kunsthistoristiches, one of the closest old city...More
What to say about Pension Baronesse... a great hidden gem!
First, the location: close to the Rathaus, but enough far away so you can enjoy your sleep with distubance.
The staff: AWESOME. They are kind, polite, always have a smile to share and are truly...More
Our family stayed in two rooms over the new year weekend 2012 and we were very happy with the Baronesse. Sure, the rooms are not spanking new but they are large, clean and everything works. Great breakfast. Good connection (two tram stops) to old centre/Ring....More
we really felt at home in Pension Baronesse. Ladies at reception desk and in breakfast room were so friendly!! Our room looked like the set of a old-fashioned Rosenkavelier: and that is positive remark! Cosy and warm.

The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of
overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
