Solid little hotel with good desk staff. The rooms are VERY small but adequate. Was OK if you got their early, but they tended to run out of the hot foods and it did not appear they were restocked after they were gone. As a side note, be careful with on-line bookings and read their policies carefully. Don't make the...

While there are some hotels in Vienna which looked amazing, they also come with an amazing price tag! A restricted budget meant we chose Hotel Alpha and we're glad we did. The hotel is on a quiet side street a minute from an underground station and the town hall which had a massive Christmas market in it. The centre of...

We spent five days in this hotel at the end of October. If you want a small hotel in a nice quiet area but within walking distance of beautiful Vienna city centre and all it's attractions you will not beat this hotel. It is situated five minutes walk from the Rathaus and museum area; and three minutes from the underground...

If you want a clean room for the night in a quiet but convenient location this is worth a look. It is a couple of minutes walk from the U2 line, and within walking distance of central Viennese attractions. There were some friendly and good value restaurants in the surrounding streets. There are no extra amenities but the room was...

This hotel was great value and more than I had expected after reading reviews on it. The rooms were modern and air-conditioned. Breakfast was wonderful, the staff re-plenished the buffet quickly and were very efficient. A bonus was the coffee/tea machine, that was available for use,in the lobby ,24/7. Fruit was also provided, free for the taking. The location was...

For people who would want a hotel just to sleep, then this is excellent. (Who would go to a 3 star hotel to spend the day in the hotel room?) Breakfast in abundance - both continental and English. There's also coffee and fruit available for free anytime. Rooms, though small and limited in luggage space, are clean and comfortable AND...

I stayed at Hotel Alpha in July 2008 for 1 night. Can say only the best about this hotel. We arrived in Vienna at 6am and at about 7 am were at hotel (it is about 15 minutes from West Bahnhof by U-Bahn). Although the usual check-in time is at 2pm they let us check in at 7 am! And...

Hotel Alpha is very well situated for tourists visiting Vienna. The underground (U2) station is less than two blocks away and the Rathus, Parliament, Hofburg Palace and Inner Stad are all within easy walking distance. Two small grocery stores, multiple restaurants and bakeries are located just outside the hotel as well. The hotel is very modern, with spacious rooms and...

Good location, near a metro (Rathaus). We had a clean room, clean toilette and daily change of towels, comfortable bed, in a quiet and safe area, excellent staff, and adequate breakfast. Yes we had all of these, at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for?

We stayed at the Alpha Hotel from Dec 21-25th and it was a great location for the Town hall Christmas Market. It is located on a quiet side street but only a few minutes walk from Tram 19 and Metro station Rathaus. It is so unassuming from the outside that we walked by it twice before noticing it. The rooms...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
