Enjoying a magnificent site of the Promenade with stunning views of both of the Ormes, this lovely Victorian hotel offers guests a friendly Welsh welcome. Tastefully furnished throughout, and retaining many of the original Victorian features throughout, the hotel’s bar and lounges provide the ideal locations in which to relax. Laid back days can be spent enjoying the beach, strolling the pier or shopping in the newly opened retail development by the main shops. Alternatively, take a tram ride up the Great Orme or discover the numerous sporting pursuits that are on offer locally, too. For a getaway discovering the very essence of North Wales - a region renowned for its beautiful coastline, Celtic heritage and the grandeur of Snowdonia - you couldn’t be better placed than in Llandudno. A small car park is located at the rear of the hotel, or there is unlimited free parking at the front of the hotel.

County Hotel stands out for its prime seafront location, with guests appreciating the close proximity to shops and the convenience of free parking. While the atmosphere is generally considered clean and comfortable, some guests have highlighted areas needing improvement, such as the dated decor and neglected exterior. The hotel's amenities have received criticism for issues like limited lift capacity and occasionally missing essentials. Although service is often seen as friendly, there are instances of inefficiency. Room cleanliness and upkeep are inconsistent, with negative reports often overshadowing the positives. Overall, reviewers frequently question the value offered by the hotel.

We booked this New Year package way back in June as we loved the sound of what was on offer. Our three rooms were warm and cosy with sea views, the bathrooms were a little dated but clean. There were nice touches such as miniature whisky, Prosecco and chocolates in each room. The hotel itself feels tired in places but was very nicely decorated for Christmas. The dining room is bright and airy but there seems to be a shortage of staff as those serving on whizzed round at great speed which didn’t really make for a relaxed atmosphere. The food was ok, not haute cuisine but tasty with good choices. However, they suggest that if you wait for the initial rush to pass at mealtimes then you’ll get served quicker - this sounds fine in theory but in practice meant that basics such as porridge, custard and fruit for the cheese platter had run out.😳 Not earth shattering, just annoying. Also the hotel appeared full to capacity with everybody wanting to join in the New Year celebrations so why weren’t there enough tables and chairs in the ballroom to accommodate everybody?? You either had to be first in the dining room to gulp your meal down so you could grab a table or miss out as there were none left. Two nights we had to carry tables and chairs ourselves and ended up sitting by a draughty doorway to the toilets one night and on the ballroom floor another night. On New Years Eve we managed to squeeze on a table with four other people but it was a squash! For this reason we would not consider staying here again, why advertise a Gala New Year break with entertainment then not provide enough seating for everybody to enjoy that entertainment? County Hotel, sort yourselves out, you let us down, with better hotel/staff organisation this needn’t have happened.

We visited Llandudno week commencing 9th March 2020 and stayed at the County Hotel as part of a Shearings break. The hotel is in a good position right on the promenade and a few yards from the Venue Cymru. This was important for us as we had tickets to We will Rock you as part of our break.

Our only problem was swiftly dealt with and that was on arrival we had been given room 230. On opening the door we were knocked back by the smell of smoke. The Housekeeper came to the room and although she said she couldn't smell it she immediately agreed to a new room. We moved to the 3rd floor and there wasn't a problem there.

Food was fine in the hotel with just a bit of a "schmozzle" at breakfast as it seemed it had changed to table service rather than self service recently. People got quite agitated waiting for toast and tea. I can see the advantages of both forms of service and I am sure the hotel will review as time progresses.

From a Shearings perspective, this was a very good break, the hotel perfectly situated and extremely good value for money. The tour was enhanced by Mike the Coach driver whose passion for the area was a pleasure to see and hear about. Llandudno itself seemed like a town we would want to revisit. The hotel staff were always pleasant and helpful, even in some challenging situations.

I hope you survive the current difficulties as we would one day like to return to this area.

We stayed Monday to Friday with Caledonian Holidays, we decided to stay here as this was the best rated on the three hotels offered by the coach holiday company in Llandudno, there was five of us on our coach a few from a Shearings coach and another Caledonian coach which had travelled from Scotland. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the sea front and cliffs to the left and right, it was a decent size with two single beds 🛌, lamp, LCD TV 📺 and two chairs. It was very clean beds a little firm but comfy, the bathroom was a bit old fashioned which some may not like but it was clean and fine for us.
Downstairs you could see much of it had been re-painted fairly recently, I read it had been taken over during lockdown becoming a Coast and Country hotel it was previously part of the Bay Hotels group.
There is a bar downstairs serving drinks and snacks, a large room for breakfast and evening meals and several areas/lounges with seating, one with a large TV on the wall and a fireplace. Around the back and a little hidden is ‘The Ballroom’ a modern decorated area down a few steps with tables and chairs, a dance floor, stage and lights. It was here were we enjoyed live entertainment (see photos) on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings which included a live singer and on Thursday a quiz, there’s also a bar in the ‘Ballroom’ too.
The stand out of this hotel (see photos) for us was the food and we heard positive comments from other guests. Breakfast time included cereals, toast, apple/orange juice, bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, hash browns, black pudding, bread for the toaster plus Danish pastries including those one with fruity jam on lovely they went quickly though.
There were three choices of starters including items like soups, prawn cocktail, nachos and garlic mushrooms, 3 mains per night like fish, meat and vegetarian dishes and three puddings to choose from like cheesecake, waffles, pancakes, ice cream and cheese and biscuits. The weather was a bit windy and wet at times as expected at this time of the year, it is about 14 minutes from the main shops like ASDA, M&S and B&Q and small stores like Games n Gear, and about the same distance to the pier but was a little windy for us to go properly onto the pier.

We stayed here for 2 nights in mid June 2021.

Was great to be able to travel again albeit more locally than usual.

Check in was quick and we were allocated a first floor room with a partial sea view which was a nice surprise. The room was clean and comfortable however the bathroom door was right next to one of the beds which made it awkward to not disturb the person in this bed when needing to use the toilet during the night.

The bar area was well used by other guests and had a good atmosphere and there was a singer performing on the Saturday night.

We didn’t have any food at the hotel as we preferred to eat out at the many different places in Llandudno especially as this was our first time in the resort. Llandudno itself is beautiful and the hotel is located right on the sea front and a short walk from the town centre and pier.

We really enjoyed our stay overall at the County hotel although we did have two minor niggles. Firstly was the cost of some basic items. For example a small bottle of water cost £2.30. Personally we found this quite excessive especially in what is a budget hotel.

The second grip we had sadly was the experience we had when checking out. Covid has had a major impact on the tourism and leisure sector- I know this more than most as I work in this industry and I feel it more important than ever that high customer service levels are implemented. When we checked out the girl on reception sadly barely give us a second glance and a meek thank you. No mention whether or not we enjoyed our stay or wishing us a safe journey home. May sound petty to some but it did slightly spoil what was up to that point an enjoyable stay.

Would we stay at the County hotel again? Admittedly yes we would but I think I would also check availability for other hotels before automatically re-booking here based on the experiences mentioned above.

Where to start? Room was cosy but ok, shower was tepid & pathetic.
We were given meal times, no choice as we were self drive & the bus tours took priority. Water on the table was warm.
Did NOT feel COVID safe, tables were sprayed between sittings but not the chairs & the same menu was reused. Some tables were not a metre apart. We were advised that meals would all be served and not be on a buffet basis. Yet it was self service for cereals, toast, pastries etc with everyone touching the cereal serving spoons etc straight after each other.
The only cooked breakfast offered was full english but we quickly found out that if you asked for poached eggs for example you could have them. Yes there was plenty of antibacterial hand gel in and out of the dining room but not many people used them I’m afraid.
Staff were lovely, just not enough of them. By our 4th day there appeared to be more staff & it was better organised.
We put a request in for a change of towels at breakfast time. We went out & returned at about 6.00pm no towels. Asked at reception to be told that housekeeping had all gone home but they had the towels there. Took them to the room to discover that there was only 1 bath towel for 2 of us. It then took reception half an hour to find another one.
We asked for a pot of tea for 2 one afternoon at the bar. For £4.40 we got 2 cups of tea, no pot or hot water. We got the impression that the barman was new.
We will not return to this hotel.
Did NOT feel COVID safe, it made me quite anxious 😟

Definitely not suitable hotel for disabled or elderly. So many steps. 100 rooms with a lift that holds 2 people. The entrance to the hotel is scuffy old and dirty. The corridors are like a rabbits warren narrow & smelly The hotel provides you with a letter explaining the hotel has had a deep clean due to Covid. I think they forgot the sticky dirty doors and the bedroom and bathrooms. We all had sympathy for the staff. They were obviously short staffed an emergency manger left after one day. The Hotel is a disgrace. My room didn't have WiFi as stated. The TV was broken. The window catch was broken it would blow open wide. A wooden coat hanger was a helpful tool to retrieve it. Breakfast wasn't the best half cooked bacon sausage always nearly cold. Porrage was served in an unwashed container dried from the day before. Dinner unacceptable mostly all frozen foods menue choice poor. I could go on it's like faulty Towers definitely not good value yet coach companies are still taken bookings. The neglected plants have given up hope

Four night (Mon - Fri) stay with Venue Cymru ticket on Thursday night. I requested an accessible, single room. I was allocated room 303 which is on the third floor, within 5 meteres of the lift. The room appeared to have been recently refurbished and was very comfortable and warm, with a sea-view. Storm Ciara didn't affect my stay, even though it was cold outside. Allocated car parking was available for a small extra fee. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are a number of lounges, a ballroom and bar. The entertainment was also good. Mealtimes were busy and the food tasty. I enjoyed the food but many guests complained about the temperature of it. I had no problems with this. I would definitely stay here again. Venue Cymru must also be mentioned. I spent an evening there enjoying Fishermans Friends. It's a large venue with ample parking, a cafe and a restaurant. A lovely evening with the Cornishmen.

Great service from Shearings. Our Rooms (118/119) were spotless no complaints at all. Our heating went off one afternoon I went to Reception and before I went back to the room they brought a heater up for us and before we got back after breakfast the heating was back on great service. We found the staff very helpful the waiter and waitress we had Matt and Enisha were brilliant they work so hard nothing was too much trouble for them bless them. Jim the Compère was excellent great jokes and a good voice too, very friendly man, Bruce the singer one night has an amazing voice. We had a great break we have been to the County before and will certainly be returning again.

Firstly as you enter the establishment there are no signs is accreditation, which would indicated that either it has never had any or has lost it, if the latter is true, rightly in my opinion.

As indicated in my title this place resembles a boarding house rather than a hotel. The whole place looks run down with carpet’s threadbare in many places, including the restaurant, and requires a good hoovering and shampoo, all over

Cleanliness is somewhere between grubby and filthy depending on which area you are looking at.

Bedrooms are small as are the bathrooms, there is a inadequate/poorly maintained toilet system, which can be horrendous.

The restaurant is a joke, some staff run around achieving little, while others stand around doing little or nothing. There is absolutely no organisation or management control. On three occasions our order was lost and we had to reorder. There are often long delays and a lack of anybody taking any responsibility.
We walked out on the penultimate day and did not bother on the final, eating out on both occasions.

There were two receptionist while we were there one excellent and far too good for this place, whilst the other was lazy, unhelpful and generally obnoxious, far more interested in chatting to her friends behind the bar than staffing reception.

There is no management control/supervision and staff appear to do what they like.

All in order a miserable experience. Or as another guest remarked to me, you couldn’t give the hotel away in a free raffle.

It was clear on arrival there was very poor cleanliness standards. Whole place needs a good vac. Bedrooms not seen a duster for some time. When staff wipe tables they don't use antibac sanitizer spray just wiping tables one after the other with a dry cloth - doesn't feel Covid safe. Wine glasses on table covered in dust around the rim.
And if you thought that was bad Gordan Ramsey would have a field day with how bad the food is. Food arrives within seconds of ordering... not freshly made, cold / tepid at best, microwaved watery salmon covered over with unappetising sauce to hide how it has been cooked, frozen veg, "exotic fruit salad" consists of a chopped up Granny Smith apple and the minutest piece of kiwi fruit you have ever seen, crumble cold.
We booked meals included with booking.com. It was pay on arrival. The hotel advised food can only be cancelled through booking.com even though it was the hotel that took our payment on arrival. How is it so difficult to get a refund for food we haven't even eaten yet.
Very very poor.
Be warned ! Do not stay here !
The one plus side is that waiting staff are pleasant and do their best but unfortunately are very out of their depth.
