A really warm welcome from reception. The room has nice little extras such as free elder flower liqueur (which was gorgeous) and The White Company toiletries which made the stay feel really luxurious. Fabulous central location although disappointing that there is no parking and have to use the sister hotel up the road. Fantastic tasty breakfast.

We were staying at The George down the road and had been recommended this pub for a nice Sunday evening dinner. Booking essential. The food here was unexpectedly outstanding, it really was. My husband had the roast beef, it was beautifully done. I had the chicken with kale, crispy potato rosti and tarragon sauce.....it was sublime. To round it off,...

Gorgeous authentic Elizabethan feel to this public house on the edge of Burghley House estate. Breakfast was super and the new garden looks like it will be great when finished. Lighting in the bedroom and to get into the bedroom was poor - on the other hand shower was excellent.

We recently had a two day stay here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. We were greeted by Jill who was lovely and offered to collect our bags from the car which was parked at The William Cecil about 200 yards up the road as The Bull And Swan doesn't have...

Stayed here rather than at the George where we dined in traditional style. However we didn't want to afford the George's room rates. The Bull and Swan provided a comfortable overnight stay with friendly staff and great traditional surroundings. However all the bedrooms overlook the Street which is very busy and noisy from early in the morning. Otherwise the bedroom...

We had a very pleasant stay for one night in one of the superior rooms. Full of atmosphere , comfortable and spacious. We also had our dog with us and he had been supplied with a bed & food & water bowl which I thought was a nice touch. Large walk-in shower and big fluffy towels. We ate in the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. It was founded by The 5th Earl of Exeter in 1684 and it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. It had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters. They would have drunk locally brewed ales, feasted on Burghley Estate and other local produce and created total bedlam. Things have a habit of coming round and we are delighted to invite you to dine on our local produce, sup our fine ales and obviously behave very, very well! ... more   less
