I’m not sure I expected such a hefty Victorian pile! A fine house with magnificent rooms both for sleeping and wood-panelled dining. A warm welcome from Malcolm who gave us good tips on eating locally and which historical sites were worth a visit. The rooms were well-stocked with beverages, kettle, shower gel, shampoo, bottled water, coat hangers, DVDs and iPod...

This was a wonderful place to stay. They seemed completely unfazed when we turned up with two dogs. The rooms are beautiful and our bed was on the scale of the Great Bed of Ware. A brilliant breakfast too - black pudding especially recommended.

We have been to this beautiful place 3 times now. Greeted by the friendly owner with tea and scones, and able to sit in front of a roaring log fire to enjoy was just the beginning of our relaxing stay. We stayed in the Blue room this time, and what splendour! The room was more like a suite. Tea making...

We stayed here as a stop over to break up a 10 hour drive and it's just a wonderful find. It's dog friendly, which is a must for us and whilst a lot of places say they are dog friendly, the reality and practicality can be very different. Here you have easy access to the extensive grounds so taking the...

Highly recommended. Malcolm was the perfect host, the room was spacious, warm, clean and the breakfast was faultless. The hall itself is surrounded by lovely views and is full of character. A must stay if you're in the area!

I guess the immediate reaction is the warmth that exudes from Malcolm and team, the relaxing ambience and the uniqueness of the experience in this wonderful house of great character. Everything is gently done, without intrusion but ensuring that every little detail of the stay is perfect. The log fires. The peace and tranquility of a well-equipped lounge that conveys...

We stayed on 23rd December on route for our Christmas break. We were welcomed warmly by Malcolm and immediately served tea and scones in front of a roaring fire. Breakfast was delicious served in the dining room in front of a roaring fire and beautiful Christmas tree. The bedroom was large with a separate bathroom and shower room. The decor...

Welcoming and friendly. The room was straight out of a country life magazine, although a little impractical. No sign off the road, so a little hard to find in the dark. The lack of a bar and evening restaurant is a downside, but the breakfast was great.

We came here for afternoon tea, which was lovely and fresh. The scones where beautiful with the jam and cream. Made even better with the roaring log fire. We will definitely be coming back and we would highly recommend a visit.
