We didn't book to stay at the royal but at its sister hotel the clifton. Unfortunately Britannia let us book the clifton and didn't tell us we had been moved to the royal until we arrived in scarborough. However it was quite a nice old place. Staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and parts of tissue hotel are still...

This place is utterly appalling. Rooms freezing with no working radiator so they put two plug in heaters which made no difference. The ceiling in room is bowed and looks like it could collapse with massive brown stains all over from a leak. Everything here is dated. Menu like something from the 70s. Feels like a giant fawlty towers. I...

Spent 2 nights here with groupon vouchers. £65 a night for 2 with bottle of wine for dinner great value. Lovely Victorian hotel with lots of character must have been fabulous in its hey day. Nice food and good refurbished bedroom. How anyone can moan about the hotel is beyond me after all you know its old when you book....

Booked the hotel on Booking.com for a very good price. Our stay was great. The Royal Hotel is a grand old place that is a bit dated. The rooms were clean, bathroom great, staff were fantastic, especially Malcolm, he was fab, I never had to remember my room number, as he did it for me. We had someone that wasn't...

DO NOT entertain this hotel, we spent the worst Christmas EVER in this hotel. Food cold, Hotel cold, not a lot of entertainment for the season, no disabled rooms available, staff unhelpful full of jobsworths, everything was not their problem, blaming the coach company. Requests never executed. I advise you give this and any other hotels in the Britannia chain...

We were moved from The Grand because of Norovirus so we didn't originally book to stay in the Royal. The Royal has it's own splendour, the staircase is magnificent. Our rooms were very cheap, one was very basic overlooking the alley and the other was more like a standard hotel room with a view. Both rooms were clean and had...

The place needs a total refurb, every part of the place is old and dirty, the room.....well it was so bad we laughed at the cheek of being charged to stay in such a dump. We were booked in for three nights..... not a chance we got out. The members of staff we did meet, were to be fair very...

the room was dreadful 306 a supposed deluxe room. Damp on the ceiling, a broken bed, the filthiest chair and seat covers ive ever seen. A draught through the window, which needed the curtains shut to keep some of the draught away but also stopped you seeing the worst dump of a view you can imagine. The only good points...
