This hotel has a beautiful setting and the outside of the building is extremely attractive. Unfortunately the inside does not live up to expectations. The much mentioned carpet is an uninspiring grey with many stains and worn patches. The bedrooms are dated but OK. The breakfast was only average and the choice was very limited if you did not want...

Lovely country house beautifully maintained with an excellent room for our one night stay. Idle location for visits to Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury. The reception staff handled our booking extremely well, we didn't use the dining facilities. Parking the car was no problem, however the signage to the reception was a bit vague.

A missed opportunity for Mercure. A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Room was lovely , although we did have to evict a beetle. On arrival - no one on reception. A young girl came in for the start of her shift and proceeded to check us in, still with her coat and bag with her - as she saw...

On first impession, the place looks good on the outside but on entering the building the the dirty carpet and uninviting reception desk was the start of bad things to come. After a long day we were looking forward to a good meal but unfortunately they had run out of steaks, steak & ale pie and the lamb dish leaving...

What a location. Situated on a large estate (well, we are from the continent) with a stunning view over a rolling landscape. For us this was just an ideal resting place between two very long journeys with a rather loud classic car. We were welcomed by friendly staff. The room was nice and big enough. The restaurant is excellent with...

Arrived at this beautiful manor house, checked in, went to our room and it was still being cleaned etc, went down to reception, where we were upgraded to a superior room with four poster bed, the room was beautiful and so was the bathroom, all clean. The only complaint with regard to the room was no air conditioning and boy...

Beautiful setting and some good reviews so thought we would try as looking for regular base when visiting family in the area. Sadly from the start the experience wasn't good. Chap in reception seemed as though couldn't care less. Tried to book for dinner but had to fit into their schedule rather than ours. Sent to the Mews across the...

This hotel is set in nice grounds, a lovely old building at the front and the reception and lobby areas are stylish and comfortable. However this is a pretty rubbish hotel. The receptionist seemed vaguely confused and irritated by our arrival. Food stops being served in the restaurant at 9.30 but room service only goes on for 30 minutes longer....
