We met some friends for lunch at The Hare and Hounds, eating in the barn. The food was very good and the bottle of New Zealand sauvignon blanc was excellent. Staff were friendly, cutlery and glasses polished to perfection. Well done HHH!

Loved this place, the rooms are well appointed with all the facilities you could wish for. The only fault I could find was the kettle, having to unplug the kettle from the socket and take to the bathroom to fill was a bit of a task but seriously it was not a major issue ( cordless may be the way...

Taken to the Hare and Hounds Barn restaurant for a meal by some friends. Service was a little chaotic but maybe down to young staff. Very nice venue in a newish area built outside the main building. Had sea bass and fish pie. Very good. Apparently three beers on but one not available yet. I'd turn the name tag around.

Top notch meal food was delicious The Barn restaurant is very airy and comfortable excellent food from the chefs The bar area is looking a little jaded but this adds to the charm. The service was good I think a little more attention to small details like table layout etc it was pretty but I think just plain white linen...

Stayed here for one night on a recent visit to Newbury races and loved it. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere and a good selection of beverages and the restaurant serves up nice food with a good level of service. The accommodation is slightly dated and tired in some places but you can forgive that as it is just...

Lovely barn, beautifully decorated for the dining facilities, really friendly atmosphere. Bedrooms were clean. Staff friendly, all make for a good stay. We needed three twin rooms, which not many hotels can provide.

Dropped in on spec to have a quick lunch with a friend before attending a meeting. The light, airy "barn" area seemed to have plenty of space when we arrived but we were told we couldn't sit there as they were expecting a family group so we moved into a small snug area - snug that is until a delivery...

Dear Lorraine My sincere apologies for your disappointment. Our Fish Pie is our most popular dish, but I shall be speaking with my chef to unsure all skin is remover, in fairness it normally is. I'm pleased you collleague enjoyed their lunch, and apologise for the slow service. It was actually a funeral party which was running late and did...

We have visited the Hare and Hounds on several occasions before and always had good food and service, however we took my mother in law there last Sunday (26th February) for lunch and we definitely won't be going back. First there was a mix up with the table which had been laid up for2 when the booking was for three....

Dear Chrissie My sincere apologies that your meal was not too our usual high standard. We generally do over 100 lunches successfully, but I shall review all you have said with my restaurant manager and Head Chef. I should say that we use fresh turkey from Vicars of Ashhamstead, indeed all our meat is purchased fresh and cooked here. We...

Visit to friends in the area saw another one night stay at this very convenient location. Room was again as expected i.e. comfortable with everything needed. Met with friends for lunch in the restaurant which we all enjoyed - the food is, we find, always good. Sunday breakfast was tarnished by service that was not their usual standard - several...

Dear P4RXC Thank you for choosing our Inn again. We are blessed with so many regular guests, be it once a year or once a week. We do try to keep all running smoothly, but things do go wrong and as you say, we should be honest and hope that all will be as understanding as yourself. We shall look...

This pub/restaurant is surrounded by a small complex of cottages (either built as or converted to hotel rooms). The rooms are small and basic, but very clean and solid. The restaurant food is OK, and the bar has some decent beers and ales. There's also a good beer terrace, though it was a little chilly in February. If you are...
