Rather dated but this does not detract from the overall cleanliness and comfort. Very friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. Food good value for money, breakfast adequate and good choice.Overall a pleasant experience for myself and family. Particularly happy as this is a dog friendly hotel. But certainly not over-run with dogs for those who are not dog...

This is the place where Mary was locked up by Queen Elizabeth I so yes it has some pretty important history. Our hosts treated us to high tea in the Old Hall and that was an absolute treat as we appreciated the fact that this place was steeped in history. We had a room all to ourselves with our two...

By and large towns and cities get the Hotels they deserve, and Buxton deserves The Old Hall. Buxton is not Bath nor Harrogate, and as a town it is none the worse for that. Buxton is friendly, interesting and unpretentious, and so is The Old Hall. Lovely big high ceilinged rooms. Comfy beds, a warm welcome and a brilliant breakfast...

It may well be the oldest hotel in the UK, and it certainly has bags of character, but it still has elegance and charm in both the public areas and the room we had. A dual aspect room with 3.5 metre high windows overlooking the square and the Pavilion Gardens with a very comfortable bed, and period furnishings. The 'Derbyshire'...

Ok, I always read reviews before going away. Enjoyed the ones about this hotel, lots of comments around it being dated.... We rather felt that was the point. Lovely four post bed, nicely decorated room and all the facilities you could need. Food was great in both the wine bar and restaurant and this is where choose to get engaged,...

In a great central location and a stone's throw away from The Opera House. There was nothing outstanding about this hotel whatsoever - it was just average. We stayed for 2 nights and had the average breakfast in the morning.

I attended the Old Hall with family in December as a pre-theatre drink and snack. I loved the building, there were plenty of different rooms which made it a really authentic country experience. There wasn't a massive alcohol selection but certainly suited my needs. We had some sharing boards which I must say were very nice and great for a...

Just had a delicious supper in Mary's wine bar at the Old Hall Hotel in Buxton. Excellent fish cake, then lambs liver with delicious mash and gravy followed by the steamed ginger sponge. So nice to be back at the hotel. Very friendly staff.

The Old Hall is really very good. It is pretty old so the rooms are quire basic but very comfortable with King size beds and the en-suites are very good. The reception staff are very helpful and the restaurant staff cannot be faulted having a mixture of old fashioned courtesy and charm. The evening food is good and the breakfasts...

Stayed a couple of Saturdays ago. Slightly apprehensive with some of the comments but more than pleasantly surprised. All staff very welcoming and pleasant. Room was lovely, we had a room at the front in the "extended " part. Large room, plenty of storage. Lovely and warm. Bathroom was OK, all very clean and tidy. Breakfast was wonderful and extremely...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here on Trip Advisor. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us a couple of Saturday's ago. It's so lovely to see such positive comments about the hotel and staff. I also love the quirkiness of the building with sloping floors and creaky floorboards, we wouldn't ever change...
