Huntington house is a great place to stay my husband and myself stayed for 2 nights. The owners are lovely and welcoming the minute you walk through the door. Our room was beautiful spotless and had everything anyone could possibly need in it. I'm lactose intolerant and this was catered for at breakfast time and also with lactose free milk in room. The breakfast was beautifully presented and tasted great too. A lovely variety to choose from. I would advise anyone visiting dunfries to stay at the Huntington for all the above reasons and the added bonus it is only a 5 to 10 minutes stroll to the town centre. We will be definitely staying on our next visit to Dumfries.

I find this one of the most interesting reviews to try to word! I loved the character of the house itself, with its old sloping floors. Our welcome was warm and the owner did everything to make our stay an enjoyable one - even coming and looking for us in the town when the police decided to do their once a year check on cars parked outside when they shouldn't be! Our dog was welcomed and the room was comfortable - apart from the fact that we were there on the hottest day so far this year and wondered why we were sweating and so unbearably hot in the night. It was only the next morning that we discovered the radiator had turned itself on! The window had to be propped open with a piece of wood, but I didn't find that a problem. Bath robes were provided. The house is a little quirky in its decoration, with collections of items everywhere and numerous clocks, most of which don't tell the right time. But it was the wooden statue of a naked male in the breakfast room that really did nearly put me off my breakfast - especially as I had opted for sausages! If it were me, I would move it elsewhere as I found it quite offputting being sat with it in my immediate view throughout the meal. But each to his own. The breakfast was ok. The bathroom was interesting, with its overhead cistern toilet with a book of crossword puzzles beside, complete with dictionary and pen and pencil (most obliging). It had a roll top bath, but in contrast to this old style was the walk-in shower, which was complete with jets etc if you wanted and a seat built into it. The old and the new! We shared the bathroom with the only other room. We parked outside the house, which the owner also does, although officially cars should be removed by, from memory, 9am. Apparently there is normally no problem with leaving cars outside all day, but we chose the one day in the year when police did a spot check! But they didn't book cars: they knocked on the door and asked for them to be moved. Very nice! There was a car park just around the corner. It was a pleasant stay and we would stay there again. Wallingford itself is a very pleasant town. It is Causton in Midsomer Murders on TV. There is a nearby RAF base and the noise of the planes was quite obvious to us, although residents don't notice it, but it did add interest when planes and helicopters took off and flew overhead. Apparently aircraft were gathering in readiness for one of the Jubilee fly pasts.
