Just returned from an overnight stay for our wedding anniversary and sadly feel very underwhelmed. Was very excited to be staying as had booked a suite, seen photos of the rooms which looked lovely and tbh was looking forward to a relaxing break from the kids. After booking I was emailed to let me know which room we had been allocated as I had booked a suite. But upon arrival and being shown to our room I immediately noticed it wasn’t as per the photos I had seen and had not been given a suite and what we had paid for. Queries immediately to be told the suites has been given to others. They were very apologetic and offered us a bottle of champagne. I’m glad I pushed back on this as this would not have made up the change in accommodation. Instead we were offered a free meal which we accepted.

There are 2 huge positives I will take away from our stay. The food was brilliant, both dinner and breakfast so would thoroughly recommend both. Equally the customer service was exceptional and the staff really could not be nicer. The service at dinner was very slow with far to long a gap between courses which was fine by us as we were in no rush but it was pushing it a bit.

Our room, as per the rest of the building was decorated exquisitely but I feel the bedrooms were more style over substance and wonder if the interior designer would’ve done what they did if they’d actually spent the night in one of their rooms. The room were was given was small which didn’t help me get over the fact we had paid for a suite but the real issue was the light. It was dark and cosy but because the bathroom blinds didn’t shut completely the light in the morning was too much so rather than getting the lie on in we desperately needed we ended up getting up early. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by glass so all the light floods through. The nespresso machine leaked everywhere too.

The shower was great, toilet was very high which I’ve never seen before.

We left very full on the great food but also very tired so I’m now off to have a nap to try and recover.

First impression of the pub is good, lovely decor and convenient parking. We arrived to a quite hostile welcome by a man who appeared to be the manager, not friendly or chatty at all. He showed us to our room, Percy, which was very nice, but a little tatty is places. Carpet was wore and stained. Lovely waterfall shower, but only one bath robe??

Due to the limited amount of restaurants in Egham we decided to have dinner here. We dined in the conservatory which was lovely but the food was very poor. Steak was tough, and just served with chips no garnish and at £23 was a rip off. I ordered a cherry ripple sundae, it came in a small sugar bowl like dish, not a sundae in opinion and at £8 was ridiculous. There was also a service charge added our bill.. what a cheek! Didn’t not enjoy our meal at all, very disappointing.

Bed was comfy, but a little small. Next morning went to make a coffee but no milk! Little details really need to be addressed. Breakfast was good, but limited choice, waitress was friendly, much better than the ‘manager’.

Was really looking forward to our stay here but left rather disappointed, we paid £125 inc breakfast, not too bad but have stayed in more friendly Premier Inns. Suggest staff need training in hospitality, as this goes a long way in getting return visits, which as you will gather we will not be.

Response from Oliver Emmerson-Fish, General Manager at The Kings Arms
Responded 5 weeks ago
Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear that my assistant manager was hostile and did not explain the complimentary milk in the cupboard down the hallway to your room. Our food and rooms are priced competitively for the area in which we are situated and our optional service charge is a standard practice for our industry in recent times. We are always happy to remove the service charge should you ask. I am sorry to hear that you did not feel you got value for money and that our service was therefore cheeky. The carpets are awaiting a steam clean and unfortunately this has not been completed before your stay but we are very much trying to resolve it as soon as possible. I thank you for your suggestion that my team require further training as we are always providing additional coaching to them to improve our offer and grow every team member. Kindest regards, Oliver

Booked The Crown Room for an all day business meeting.

Looked lovely on the website pics but is very dark and cold! Not suitable for an all day meeting, not good for your eyes! AV worked well.

Service - 2 people on shift, female shift manager was helpful, male waitor needed every request repeated or chased to complete. All service was slow.

Ate lunch in the Menagarie, was very cold again. Despite pre-ordering food in the morning, and 7 out of 8 had sandwiches, everything came out sporadically meaning we all ate at different stages. Ordered drinks once the food was delivered and had finished eating by the time they arrived.

Whilst cheap to hire, the service impacted our view of the day here. Food wasn't great either.

I had a great stay at this charming little boutique hotel. Tons of character & lots of design flair & thoughtful touches. Totally my kind of place. Relaxed, unpretentious, buzzy, & beautifully styled. Fundamentally, it’s a Brasserie & Bar, with a handful of rooms above, located on Egham High Street. I instantly loved the look & feel of the place. Entry is via the cosy bar, with prime drinking spot being the couple of tables next to the log burner. The restaurant is chic but laid back, & offers a contemporary menu of Brasserie style dishes. My food was bang average to be honest, but I really enjoyed the excellent wine selection, ambience & efficient, friendly service. Staff were absolutely delightful throughout the stay. My room was gorgeous, really beautifully designed. Loved the little extras like complimentary sloe gin, good tea & fresh milk. Terrific range of channels on the telly, including Netflix. Ear plugs were provided… & I did use them as there was a bit of noise from the restaurant, & other rooms. The bathroom had a fabulous decor & I loved the Bramley toiletries. The bathroom was chilly though, & the shower luke warm.
I don’t want to end on a glum note, as my overall experience was a good one & I so enjoyed the stay.

We had a one night stay at the Kings Arms during a recent stay in England and found the room to be excellent value for money. The room was very well appointed, the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. All in all this was a wonderful experience and we would definitely recommend this to anyone staying in Egham as it is right along the High Street.

Poor service, slow, tasteless food and they think they are better than they really are.A very limited menu for Vegetarians and a manager that was very patronising who treated me like an idiot! Our evening was spoilt! Do not go there and waste your hard earned money. Our bill was reduced to reflect the bad experience.

Delicious lunch before departing from Heathrow.

Very close to Heathrow airport, we will consider staying in future depending on our flight schedule. Quality of food and service was excellent. I have food allergies which were accommodated with knowledge and understanding.

Our compliments to the chef, and all staff.

We had a perfect stay with great choice of food. This is a lovely little hotel with a beautiful ambience and a warmly feel. The service was on point throughout our stay, served by friendly and helpful staff. The food choice was very good with a good selection from the menu, especially the Breakfast menu, I went for the Eggs Benedict and it was delicious.

Good size room with a large comfortable bed. I slept uninterrupted throughout the night, fresh clean sheets and good quality pillows.
If I decide to visiting Windsor again I will certainly stay at this hotel.

Plenty of starter vegetarian options but only a couple of main meal options - why?!
And the cauliflower cheese starter was very poor - bland, tasteless and seemed to contain little, if any cheese at all. It’s not difficult to make a tasty cheese sauce, just 10 minutes of gentle stirring of butter, flour, milk and cheese. Maybe a little mustard or thyme for added flavour and depth. Serve with a wedge of crusty bread and butter. Come on people, you can surely do better than this! Look at any other recipes online for this dish and you’ll see loads of pictures of appetising, bubbling, cauliflower cheese. Make it look like you really love your food! Not like you’ve lost all of interest… This is probably less a kitchen issue, more to do with pressure to maximise profit.
Friendly staff, btw.
