At very last minute got a room in this hotel. While hotel is old (1740 building?) is is great. Clean and comfortable we got top floor room with view up main street and some of the surrounding hills. Bath and shower were super. We had dinner which was again excellent. Breakfast was a traditional Scottish affair. Superb Only drawback was at night. Slept with window open and there was a lot of heavy traffic through the night. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel sits on main street giving access to the shops and the nearby river and walk ways. All in all a nice find. One to return to.
Paid £20 more for superior room only difference from family members rooms was a mirror and a chair felt robbed !! And family made a joke of it constantly 😂 Entrance to all rooms a dumping ground and absolutely smells of dampness all the way to upstairs rooms bed was comfortable but far to big for the room basically 2 twin beds together. Tea&coffee in room — and sparking water which was rank ——breakfast was good although cereal in full view was not asked if any of us wanted it as told to sit down when a went to get some fruit juice DOH!! (Rude ) view from bedroom windows was very untidy and messy unkept garden and broken fence panels. Women’s toilet floor in bar was soaking and the water was running down the wall was very slippy Told girl behind bar but she said ohh that happens when it’s raining 😳Evening meal was fine second evening was elsewhere and although a HOSTEL it was first class . And spectacular views .…
Went here for a lunch with family and was really let down by the food. The chips were terrible, burger extremely thin and pie had flavourless pastry with a filling not very pleasant. Even the onion rings were reformed mush you’d expect from an own brand supermarket range. On the plus it was very clean and tidy inside and the bathrooms were nice.
Booked a table here for 4 evening meals. Overall meals were fine, the only bad part were the awful chips. On my final visit, Friday 20th August 2021, I had gammon with pineapple and chips. The chips looked like they were from the day before, and had been refried, the were disgusting. I raised this with a member of staff, who could only apologise. My advice, if you are thinking of eating here, avoid the chips. The pub is clean, staff are fantastic and real ale is on tap. Just a pity the chips are so dire.
We were in Room4, a Superior Room. Space in the room was limited, due to a massive bed - which was very comfy. Room was clean. Very disappointed with the horrible view of rubbish and waste ground from our window. Bar was very quiet and lacked a cosy atmosphere. Breakfast was served quickly by two lovely ladies, not the best of quality ingredients though.
